you treaded through the forest, fuming. you had an argument with your mother about having to teach jake. you didn't like him and laughed at his stupidity whenever you could. he irritated you to high heaven.

he looked at almost every girl in the village and it was so annoying.

your footsteps got heavier as you got even angrier.

you didn't realize where you were going cause you were looking at the ground, but you bumped onto a building. you hissed and rubbed your head looking up, seeing the old schoolhouse, where your youngest sister, Sylwanin was shot to death by sky people.

you loved that school, you loved your teacher, grace. you called her 'mother' since she was always there when you and your mother got into arguments. she loved you and your siblings the most, she saw you as her children. she would always read you stories and take you home once you fell asleep.

you missed her so much but you couldn't forgive what she did. she was conspiring with the sky people that killed your own sister. but you saw the fear in her eyes that day.

she cried with the children as most were shot, you and your sister neytiri hid under a desk sat in the corner, seeing your youngest sisters body bleed out.

you sunk to the ground at the memory and sobbed. your wailing being louder than most creatures of the forest.

you could hear muffled talking, you didn't understand anything until your hand was held.

you looked up to see jake crouched in front of you holding your hands.

"hey, hey. its alright." he said soothingly

you thought about hugging him since you truly needed it. but you didn't and got up instead, pushing the pain away.

"leave me." you said, your tail swinging anxiously behind you whole wiping your tears as if nothing had happened.

he got closer to you and you accidentally wacked his leg with your tail.

"you should be with neytiri, it is her day to train."

"Atoka, its night. you missed final meal so i came to get you."

you were so distracted by the school that you hadn't even noticed the dark.

you hissed under your breath since you missed final meal and you had yet to eat anything.

"i saved some food for you.." he took some meat out of a pouch on his side, it was wrapped delicately in a leaf.

"thank you." i said softly before eating it.

when you finished you walked away and jake followed.

"what do you want." you said as he kept following you.

"i wanted you to teach me something before we sleep."

"if you keep your mouth closed i might,"

he laughed and you both continued along the tree branchs.

he tugged on my tail and you turned around, you tried to grab his tail but he quickly dodged and you squinted at him determined to get him back while slightly smiling.

you tried again and this time you managed to grab his tail, you yanked it and he fell. you giggled as he looked at you in playful disbelief.

"oh you're gonna pay for that!" he laughed as he got up, you ran away, laughing as well.

you jumped down from branch to branch until you were on the ground, jake was far behind until you got on the ground, he quickly regained his speed and tackled you.

you laughed loudly as he threw you both to the ground. he was on top of you for a second before you both rolled away laughing hysterically.

you both calmed down and you finally spoke,

"thank you, jake. this helped." you put your hand on his chest and he blushed at you.

"you're welcome, atoka. it was my pleasure. i couldn't see you like that."

you smiled warmly at him and removed your hand from his chest.

you looked at the stars, occasionally pointing at some constellations.

"are you listening?" you said.

"oh uh yeah sorry." jake said while he changed his gaze from you to the stars.

you laughed since you could feel his eyes on you the whole time.

"that one," you pointed to the Pisces constellation "shes my birth symbol.", " we call her atari mu'kra. she is a mighty warrior. her eyes are said to be so blue you could drown in them." you said like this subject meant everything to you.

"she is beautiful, she takes form of the fish Eywa provides. she gives, and she takes. she can be as mighty and unforgiving as a thanator, and as calm as the river."

you began to reach into the sky "everyone has a connection to their birth symbol, as well as every sign from eywa has a connection, and everything around us has a connection." you sat up and grabbed jakes hand.

"this is why i teach you, i teach so you can learn. not just for you to be a warrior, but to be wise. eywa consumes your energy as it is given back to her. she gains strength from the knowledge she is given."

jake sat up now, listening, mesmerized by your words.

you smiled at him and lead his hand down to the grass beneath the both of you.

"do you feel her? her heartbeat brings us to life jake. without our mother, we are nothing but bodys. our souls, spirts, live within Ewya. without her, it all vanishes."

"this is why i am telling you this now jake."

"you have a strong heart." your hand left his and you placed it over his heart.

"you must feel our great mother to become one of the people."

your hand left his chest but he quickly grabbed it.

he wanted to tell you something but suddenly stopped and let go of your hand.

"jake?" you asked

"why are you telling me this?"

"you asked for one last lesson didn't you?" "come, we go back."

you let go of his hand and you both ran together back to home tree.
