Charity hadn't spoken to anyone in two days.

She didn't show up at school at all and she had her phone off. She never made it to spend the night with Fezco. After she pushed her way through the carnival, she found her car and drove herself home. She texted Fezco an excuse and turned her phone off.

When she got to her house, she sat in the driver seat of her car and screamed and cried until her throat was raw and then she turned her phone on and sent Maddy a paragraph about how she hoped she was okay and that she should have never left her there with Nate.

Then she turned her phone on silent and crept her way through the house. She was glad that her dad and aunt were both asleep as she didn't feel like being questioned and when she turned on her light and looked in her mirror and saw the bruise she felt her heart sink lower into her stomach.

She couldn't let anyone see the bruises on her arms or Nate Jacobs would die. And she didn't want to send anyone to prison.

So she took out her hearing aids and once again she welcomed the silence and she took a long and steamy shower and tried to scrub away the darkening bruise but it wouldn't go away and she knew she couldn't show up at school looking the way she did.
