Eloise pov
I lay in bed thinking over and over again about Cloves words "I want to kill you myself." I mean it's the hunger games of course she's going to kill me. But the way she said it. She said so confidently, as if she wasn't going to take a life. Does she only see this situation as a game? It's as if she doesn't see the real issue here. These are real people, with real lives. This isn't some board game. This is real life.
Game or not, I'm going to beat Clove Kentwell.
I eat my French toast quickly, wanting to get to training as quick as possible. If I'm going to beat Clove I need to be ready for anything. She's basically a trained killer, and I'm her victim. Except this victim is going to fight back, this victim is going to win.
We walk into the training room immediately separating apart. I go over to the climbing area and see a blonde guy. He's climbing the bars when all of a sudden he falls, hurting his ankle. He immediately gets laughed at by the careers, earning an eye roll from me. The blonde starts talking to some girl with a braid, he then goes over to the weights and picks one up walking over by the careers and throwing it to the spears making the careers go quiet.
I walk over towards him. "That was pretty cool" I say trying to mask my nerves. He looks at me surprised like he wasn't expecting me to talk to him. "Oh uhm, thanks" he smiles.
Later on I find out his name is Peeta Mellark and is from district 12. I of course end up messing up my own name telling him my middle/nickname -which is elsie- because of how nervous I was. Peeta's cool but now he messes with me by calling me Elsie. I also find out he likes his distance partner Katniss Everdeen -the girl with the braid-. He may or may not have let it slip. So now I tease him about it. Katniss is cool, she's uptight though. But I can't blame her.
I find out me and Katniss have one thing in common. We both have something to go home to. She has her sister, and I have my brothers.
Katniss is good with a bow and arrow and Peeta's strong. I think they definitely have a chance at winning.
