Lisa accepted the glass with a raised brow. "Careful. That stuff will sneak up on you just as bad as tequila". The bubbles tickled their way down my throat as my mother's words floated through my mind. 'Never drink too much'. She was right there was always one drunk woman who wondered around at outings like these.
And I wasn't trying to be caught in that social ring. My father always told me as the second heir to our family I had to show respect and elegance. A bunch of rules I broke during my time in high school. Back then I was very immature not that I'm not now.
"Why are you staying at a hotel? I thought you'd be staying with Rosie." "Well she went back to Australia to visit her parents, and Jisoo went on a family trip." Jisoo's family always took trips abroad it's like their little family tradition.
It's been like this since college every summer Jisoo would leave on her trip. And Rose would spend half the month in Australia with her parents. Leaving me and Lisa alone together I guess that's how we became so close. I didn't really feel like going home not to be dragged back into that world.
It wasn't for me it never was for me. I remember the night when my father's men first came and attacked us I was eight back then I had no idea who they were and what they came for. It was the first time I saw my father anything but the happy man he usually is.
I was horrified when I saw my father standing over a dead man's body his face covered in blood with a gun in his hand. I'll never forget the night I saw the monster in my father this world is nothing but death and blood nothing good ever comes out of it.
I took another swig of my champagne letting the sweet ecstasy of the drink consume me as if I were a five-star meal. "Oh I thought Rosie was staying here for the summer why did she go back to Australia?". Lisa shrugged.
"She said something about spending time with her sister the last time me and her talked." My eyes darted the room, taking in all the masked men. A tall man dressed in a black suit stopped me as if he could feel my gaze ranking across his broad frame, he turned his dark eyes clashing with mine.
I sucked in a breath his ornate silver mask looked like the top of a skull. The narrowed eyes created a startling yet beautiful picture. Even across the room, through his mask I could see his dark eyes sparkling through the thin slits.
My body heated under his stare as he made a point to move his head enough to let me know he was looking me up and down. Something about him, about the way his attention burned me, had a familiar warmth to it like we'd met before. A man approached the stranger pulling his attention away freeing me from his trance.
I looked over the rest of the room unexpectedly making eye contact with a person who I didn't think I'd ever see at something like this. Hyunjin smiled at me raising his wine glass with a wink. My cheeked twitched forming an awkward smile. "Why is everyone wearing masks?" I asked.
"Oh I completely forgot to tell you they're hosting a fancy mascaraed party all the rich fancy billionaires are invited." Well, that explains why Hyunjin is here. "Actually, there's another party going on here as well." She said with a smirk on her perfectly dolled up face.
My gaze narrowed, knowing she wasn't talking about an actual party. The hotel would never be so crass to throw two parties on the same night. Which meant it had to be a one of those dirty and full of bad decisions party. I sighed. "I'd say that you being so eager for me to come tonight makes a lot more sense."
She shrugged. "I know someone who works here at the hotel. He runs a little side business for when they host big events like this." "What kind of side business?". "A dirty one." "Oh, boy." I grabbed another champagne glass taking a quick swig from it. "Tell me."
"You submit your name and fill it out a questionnaire. He will pair you with someone else." "Who? And what do you mean pair?". "Someone to fuck tonight." She stated bluntly. My jaw dropped.
Before I could protest, she pushed on. "It's completely anonymous. You won't remove your mask or say any names. "When I didn't say anything, she smiled. My heart thundered in my chest, and I twisted the diamond ring on my finger. 'A lady doesn't fidget' my mother's voice rang in my head.
"I don't know." "You don't have to do anything you don't want to. It's just a way to experience someone else outside Hyunjin without the hassle of actually looking for it." I looked back at Hyunjin he was chatting with his friends which made it better for me to sneak a quick look at him.
Could I really marry him knowing I'd never really experienced anything? Would I always regret being a perfect lady when I had the chance to not be? Did I want to be celibate until I married? Was he being celibate? I shook my head no I don't want to save anything for him especially not my fantasies.
He could earn my affection later just like my mom said he would. "Let's do it." I said before I change my mind. "Yay." Lisa squealed. "If anything goes wrong, I'll just blame it on the champagne." I raised my glass and she tapped hers against it, both of us downing the fizzy bubbles.
