I was now 32 weeks pregnant. We both stood in the doorway of the now almost empty guest room that would become the nursery. Dane had painted it a light gray a few days earlier, and was finally letting me in the room. My mom had given me a dresser from her storage, my parents bought a changing table, and Dane's parent's bought a crib that Dane and his dad put together a few days ago. Our moms had planned a baby shower for me tomorrow, and I was dreading it.
"What's wrong with a shower?" Dane asked, walking back to the living room. "We get free stuff."
"I have to socialize for a whole day and people will want to touch me, and, ugh," I shuddered.
"You can set boundaries, and Y/bestfriend/N will be there, she'll protect you."
"She better."

My shower was at my mom's house. Thankfully, they kept it somewhat small. I pulled up, and took a deep breath before walking inside. Almost everyone was already there, our moms, my friends, cousins, aunts, Becca, and Dane's sister.
We ate some food, and played some games before opening presents. Thankfully, no one tried to touch my stomach except my mom, which I didn't mind. Overall, it was a good shower, and I had a good time. My dad packed his and my car to take stuff over to the apartment. I thanked my mom and Dane's mom, and left to go home, exhausted. He and Dane unloaded the cars when we arrived at my apartment.
"Thanks daddy," I said, giving him a hug goodbye.
"Love you Y/N," he said as I closed the door behind him.
"So, how was it?" Dane asked as I turned around
I started crying.
"What happened?" he said, pulling me into his chest.
"I don't know, it's just getting all this stuff is making things even more real. I'm not ready Dane," I looked up, "I'm scared."
"Y/N, I'm scared too. That's perfectly normal. No one ever really knows what they're doing. We'll do it together. Now we can start actually making a nursery, and you're birthing classes start soon," he said, trying to cheer me up.
"I guess. You're making it sound like giving birth will be fun, I have a big ass human coming out of me. What part of that is fun?" I said, leaning into his chest again.
"I know. Let's just relax, I think you're oversocialized, overwhelmed, tired, and probably hungry."
"I think you're right," I peeled away and walked towards the kitchen.

I had decided to start organizing the nursery, or 'nesting' as all those books talked about. I went through the clothes and started washing them accordingly. I moved bottles and things related to that in the kitchen. When the clothes were done, I started putting things away in the dresser, and organizing the changing table.

I was 34 weeks, it was the day of our first birthing class.
We arrived at the class, and walked in. There were few other people there.
"Welcome, please sign in, grab a name tag, and sit at a birthing ball," the lady at the front of the room smiled at us.
A few more people came in, and the lady started class. The first 2 sessions are about the labor and delivery, pain management, massages. She talked about creating birthing plans, and what to expect. We when over breathing techniques, and how to use the birthing ball if we'd like.
"Birth partners, there is also a way you can bring more relief," class was starting to come to an end. She had everyone stand up, with the pregnant one's in front of their partners," gently grab the bottom of their stomach, and slowly lift up to take some of the weight away."
Dane followed what she said, and I immediately felt relief. I leaned back into Dane's chest.
"When they're ready, you can slowly release."
"Don't you dare," I groaned, as I felt Dane starting to put it down.
"Class is over, we can do this when we get home," Dane laughed, slowly releasing, my back aching more. We walked out to the car, and started driving home.
"We should probably start your birth plan," Dane mentioned hesitantly as we were in the car, trying not to stress me out.
I was looking out the window, but turned to him, "I think I want to do it drug free," I had been contemplating this for a while.
"Oh, really?"
"I know it sounds unrealistic, but I've been considering it. I don't want to be relying on pain meds, and they don't end up working."
"Completely up to you."
When we got home we started working on my birth plan: type of birth, drug free, pain management technique, what to do with the baby, breastfeeding, things like that.
I don't know what I was thinking.
