My eyes fluttered open as the first sunrays of the day hit them. I stood upright and wiped my eye crust.

'Its cold.'

But not unpleasantly so. It was the refreshing kind of cool atmosphere.

I performed some light stretches and warm ups before climbing a tree. Unfortunately, climbing the tree didn't help with visibility at all. Looks like I will have to use a different method.

I closed my eyes and entered the world of mana. I found a strong living presence in a 50 metre radius.

Nevermind, it's Sylphiette.

I slowly increase the radius as I try to find a presence other than rabbits and forest hounds. I found the mana signature of humans a kilometre away.

I climbed down the tree, but not before performing some pull ups on a perfectly horizontal branch.

I find Sylphiette looking at the sky above in a daze. Good, looks like she has stopped moping around. I call out to her, "Sylphiette, we should move. I found mana signature of humans around."

She snapped her head back at me. She looks enraged. Did I perhaps do something to make her angry?

'This looks bad.' I thought as I tried to run away.

Tried.

I was fast. Sylphiette was faster. She held me in air, choking my neck with her left hand and pushing me against a tree.

What would be the best course of action to escape? Think fast, Grey.

'Wait, what is she doing?' I thought as she approached dangerously close to me. She pulled down my collar with her free hand and bit on my clavicle. Finally, she released her choke hold on me.

The bitten area burns.

'Was this a love bite?'

"Love bite? What is that?" She asked with a confused and slighlty irritated look on her face.

"You can hear my thoughts?"

"This is called a bond mark." She said as she rubbed on the bitten area with her thumb. A black tattoo had formed there.

I looked at her as she said that. The furious look on her face was replaced with a melancholic one. It felt quite out of place to see the eyes that used to be filled with mischief to look so crestfallen.

"It marks us both as bonds and yes, it allows us to communicate telepathically." She continued after a brief pause.

I have read about bond contracts in one of the books in Reynold's library but it didn't mention anything about telepathy. Must be a dragons only thing.

"Why form a bond contract?" I asked, curious about her action.

"Because mother said so." Sylphiette continued speaking, already knowing what my next question would be. "Last night, when you were asleep, I heard mother's voice in my head. She had left a last message of sorts for me."
