"Mandy, please answer your phone! I'm worried about you. You didn't come home last night! Please call me when you get this message. Alright, bye."
"Mandy, where are you? You still haven't called me back. Please come home!"
"Mandy, I don't know what you're doing or where you are but I'm worried! I need you to come home now! Please call me back when you get this!"
"Amanda Jean! I don't know what you're playing at but this isn't funny! You're scaring the hell out of me! Please call me back and come home! I need to know if you're okay!"
"Amanda please! I-I don't know what to do! I'm scared. Please come home!"
I punched the red button as I left yet another message. The last one was a tad hysterical but I was worried. But can you blame me? My sister's been missing for almost 2 whole days! I don't know what to do.
This isn't exactly a normal situation.
With all the missing people around here, I was beyond worried.
I frantically pressed the call button again, knowing fully well that she would not answer. Yet I still felt that twinge of dissappointment as her voice filled my ear, telling me that she'll call me back as soon as she gets this message.
For some reason I didn't think that she would get my multiple messages.
I hung up before the beep. I didn't want to leave another overemotional message on her phone. If she didn't get the point on the last 20 messages, I'm pretty sure one more won't change that.
With an exasperated sigh, I scrolled through my contacts, flipping straight to the 'M's.
"Yes?" came the familiar, impatient voice.
"Mom?" I asked softly, even though I knew it was her.
"Who else would it be?" she questioned impatiently. I could picture her tapping her foot, waiting for me to continue.
"Mom, Mandy's missing." I whimpered. I was trying to be mature and not sound childish about this but this is not a situation that a sixteen year old would normally handle. This is a situation for parents to handle.
Unfortunately for me.
My mom was currently working in New York.
Since I was young, I can remember her leaving for business trips a lot. But they were never long. Two or three days, a week tops. But ever since my dad died, her trips got longer and further until we hardly ever saw her anymore.
She would send checks and keep our bank accounts full but other than that, Mandy and I were on our own.
"She's probably just on vacation or something. Nothing to worry about." my mom replied, nonchalantly.
"Mandy wouldn't leave without telling me." I argued. I was starting to wonder why I thought that it was a good idea to call my mom. If anything, her unconcerned state just frustrated me more.
"Mandy's a child, probably just goofing around. I have to go, sweetie. I'll call later."
"But I--" I got about two words out before I was cut of by the dial tone. I obviously wasn't going to get any help there.
I flopped down on my bed in frustration. What am I supposed to do now?
Picking up my phone again, I scrolled through the contacts.
Mandy was supposed to be at work the night she went missing. I guess I can start there.
"Diana's Diner, how can I help you?" A tired voice answered the phone.
