Kid Cosmic and the Ice Cream Outing

It was 6 o'clock in the afternoon, and Kid was sitting at the counter, kicking his legs as he anxiously waited for Jo to finish work. Flo, Hamburg, Fry, and Chuck had already finished and left, but Jo still had a bit of work to do.

"Come on Jo! Hurry up." Kid said to himself impatiently. Then, Jo walked out of the kitchen.

"Ok, all done Kid." said Jo

"FINALLY! Come on let's go Jo!" said Kid

The reason why Kid was so anxious to leave was because Jo had promised him they would go get ice cream together when Jo got off work.

"Ok, ready to go Kid?" asked Jo

"You bet!" said Kid

Kid hopped down from the stool. Then he ran out the door, which made the bell ding. The door slammed in Jo's face.

"Oh Kid." Jo said smiling. She walked outside and saw him aggressively tugging and releasing her car's passenger door handle.

"Hey Kid, I think you're forgetting something." said Jo. She shook her keys.

"Hehe, yeah I know. Come on Jo! I wanna get ice cream!" said Kid

"I'm coming I'm coming." said Jo. She unlocked the car and they both got in. Then, Jo started the car.

"Seatbelts on." said Jo. Her and Kid did so. Then, they were off.

"What took you so long Jo?! I thought you'd NEVER finish!" said Kid

"Well, I had to mop the kitchen. Mopping takes time." said Jo

"Really? I thought you just got the mop wet and swished it on the floor." said Kid

"Well basically yes, but theres a bit more to it. Plus I had to be careful not to slip. It can be dangerous to slip in the kitchen." said Jo

"Yeah, I guess." said Kid

They sat in silence for a few seconds.

"Uuh, Jo, are we-"

"There yet? Nope. It takes a while to get to town, remember?" said Jo

"Yes!" Kid said not pleased "Jo, I'm boooored!"

"Ooh hello bored. I'm Jo!" said Jo with a grin

"Oh ha ha ha. Very funny!" said Kid "But Jo, I have a question."

"What is it Kid?" asked Jo

"Why do you live in the motel instead of with Flo? You're not an adult yet. How is that legal?"

"Well, I don't technically live there, I just stay there sometimes. I usually go home with mom. But sometimes I just need some time to myself, you know?" said Jo

"You mean like when I get anxious and have to go cool off?" asked Kid

"Yeah, like that." said Jo

"Also, I found a picture of you and your mom outside a house in a city. When was that taken?" asked Kid

"Ooooh yeah! I remember that picture! I was five when it was taken. That was when we still lived in Chicago." said Jo

"Oh. Why did you move Jo?"

"Well Kid, the reason was...my dad died." said Jo

"Oh crap I'm sorry Jo I didn't mean-"

"No no its alright Kid really." said Jo "What happened was dad got cancer and he couldn't beat it. After that happened mom wanted a new start, so we moved here."

"Oh." said Kid "But then, Mo died, right?"

"Yep. She did." said Jo sadly

"I'm sorry Jo. Are you ok?" asked Kid
