Before becoming Skrillex, he got spooked by something from the darkness and accidentally fell downstairs, causing him to receive a terrifying hit in the head that affects his mind, leaving him in coma with a maybe permanent mind disorder. This mind disorder causes a distortion in his memories and fragments them, especially to the older ones, leaving them blurry and confusing, causing Skrillex to have issues to remember them clearly. This also makes him forget something that happened recently, without him realising about it, especially how long he has been as a dragon beast and forgetting he used to be human. His dumb personality wasn't caused by the disorder, that's just a normal part of him, but that also makes him think the weird memories he has from his past are a joke, while these memories are his truth.
So when he just started to have reminds from his "darkest" past, he just preferred to forget it, but instead, he created his alter ego Lune to remember it (since his alter's past is similar to his), this ending up creating more characters, even cold-hearted ones (those caused by the influence of darkness or evil or just from his friends and sister's dark part of their personality).
Triggers: it's unknown what can trigger this mind disorder, as it happens randomly. Some of Skrillex's friends detect it as a chronical disorder, but it's unknown if it can't be cured.
