Later that afternoon, however, it came time for Jinora to get the patches on her eyes. Ikki is worried about her sister. Jinora is trying to be strong about all this, and last night definitely helped, but one person can only take so much. Thankfully tomorrow is Sunday so she'll have then to get used to the patches before school on Monday.

When she comes back from the doctor's office, Ikki has to admit it's going to take some time even for her to get used to. Meelo saw her and his jaw dropped, and Rohan started crying. Mom said it was because he didn't like his food. Ikki just walks up and hugs Jinora. Jinora accepts the hug, thankfully, and starts crying. Ikki leads Jinora upstairs and the two girls spend the rest of the day eating candy and swapping stories.

Ikki told Jinora about how excited she was to come to high school next year. She'd be a freshman in Jinora's junior year. Meelo would still be in middle school, but in seventh grade. Both girls expressed their excitement over this fact. Jinora told her about the teachers she should get and funny stories about each of them. Ikki tells Jinora about the teachers that recognize her in the hallway and asks about her older sister.

"They all loved you!" Ikki laughs. "They ask me what you're up to now, and what you're going to do later in life. They want to know all about their favorite student!" Jinora laughs and it's good to hear.

Sunday passes pretty much the same. Except Jinora got increasingly worried about how the patches would go over at school. Meelo tried to comfort her by saying that at least she couldn't see the weird looks people give her.

Mom grounded him.

...

Jinora has Ikki text Kai to tell him to meet her out in front of the office. Dad drops her off by the curb and Jinora begins her day like usual. She feels her way to the office, but this time she waits for Kai to find her. Until then, she kept her head down.

"Hey Jinora!" Earlier than expected, she hears Kai's voice behind and looks behind her. "Woah!" Jinora winces at his exclamation. Suddenly her face is being grabbed and moved around. "Why are there patches on your eyes?" Jinora swats him off and leans back.

"It's supposed to be the final part of my treatment. These patches have some kind of medicine on them, and they keep out any and all light so they can heal better." Kai's hands leave her face, and she already misses their warmth.

"How long do you have to wear them?" He inquires.

"Two weeks. Because I've been wearing sunglasses for nearly a month and half I don't have to have the patches for three weeks." Kai doesn't say anything, and Jinora can't even tell if he is nodding.

"Well?" She asks. "I can't see you nodding anymore." Kai smacks his face.

"Right, I'm sorry. I was just thinking. When you get those patches off, will you be able to see normally again?" Jinora shrugs.

"I don't know. I mean probably. That's what the doctors think, anyway."

"That's exciting! You'll be able to see again! Be excited Jinora! You're almost done!" There is something refreshing about Kai's upbeat attitude. Jinora laughs.

"Ok ok! I'll be excited! But you have to calm down first!" Kai laughs loudly.

"I'm sorry! I'm just excited that you have a date for your sight." Jinora laughs.

"Ok, well why are you here so early?"

"Uh, I got an email from my math teacher, Mr Chin, telling me that he wanted to meet with me about my grades before classes today." Jinora tilted her head, confused.
