"taste your own bitter medicine and overdose"
a room filled with people. people considered family with one another, so why was it so awkward? it was as if you could hear hearts beating, or the looks exchanged from each other.
the group had came to the hospital to be there for tara but since they arrived it had been nothing but tension between amber and monica freeman. but the sibling tension was about to do nothing but grow as the door opened. monica's shocked glare at amber twisted towards the door with everyone else's gaze to see who had angered the room.
Sam Carpenter. the eldest carpenter sibling, who had left Woodsboro years ago and hadn't set a foot in it since. this certainly proved the severity of the situation. Jay squeezed Eleanor's hand on as a substitute to burst out talking or laughing to share his awkwardness with his other loud friend. Wes, Mindy and Theo all looked at each other with eyes as wide as a hyde. The only one in the room who didn't feel the tension was Chad Meeks Martin. suddenly his body language shined with glee. sam and monica babysitting him was the highlight of his childhood and after sam left no one really thought to ask him if he was okay but good lord that took a toll on his mental health. she was one of the main parental figures in his life, she was only young but that didn't matter to him.
"Sam." he smiled under his breath, she looked over at him and gave him a teary look. he'd grown so much since the last time she saw him, they all had.
"Hey... how you feeling?" sam said softly, walking over to tara, blocking monica's view.
"You came" her sister weakly responded.
"Of course I did."Interrupting their sisterly look, Monica clenched her jaw, "Sam, hi"
The returned sibling looked over at her old best friend. their history dwelled up in her eyes, which she didn't try to hide, "Hey Monica" her voice broke as she smiled her name. But the nostalgic tears weren't reciprocated from Monica's point of view. Monica was truly a nice girl, but when it came to this? she had nothing to be nice about. she was the only person who know about sam leaving and she begged and begged for her best friend to stay but clearly it wasn't enough.
"Can I talk to you outside for a second?" the freeman girl got up and walked out instantly,
"Oh, sure-" it was too late.
Theo smiled at her and wrapped his arms around her had he stood up.
"i've missed you," he said, letting go, "we all have,"
the girl turned around to where Mindy, Wes, Chad, Jay and Eleanor were stood.
"Chad, Mindy, Wes," she smiled, "i never forgot any of you, never." she said, holding onto all their hands. Chad grinned from ear to ear, hearing that was the best news he'd had for a while and as soon as he was about to reply, he got interrupted.
"yeahhh this is cute n all but Sam, i think Monica's waiting for you and she doesnt look happy."
"oh, thanks eleanor. i've missed you too, you remain a delight just like your mother." sam replied, surprisingly in a very meaningful, not sarcastic tone."come with me" monica snapped as sam entered the hallway.
"oh, okay but where are we going"
"just fucking follow me sam. it's not like i'm about to whip out the knife your sister was almost murdered with and use it on you."
"monica, i know your mad about the way i left but-"
"don't start."
"i just wanna tell you"
"save it sam. i've done a great job of making you seem like a half decent person to your sister all these years you've been gone so don't go and say something that's gonna make me regret it and go in there and tell her the truth." still furiously walking with sam following her. they made it to an empty breakroom where monica led sam in and shut the door. she barged past her and turned around, arms folded.
"what are you doing here," and once again, before sam even had a chance to speak, mon continued, "and don't try tell me 'for tara' because if that was true you wouldn't have left in the first place"
"monica, i get it. i know your mad and i would be too but she's my sister. i had to come"
"oh my god just stop. i don't think i've ever been this mad, you know, sam? you cant just leave someone's life at such a young age and expect to just be able to come back because she's been put in a hospital bed. what are you trying to teach her here?" everytime monica spoke, it was just making herself even more furious. this wasn't the same sam that she spent her whole childhood with, this was the sam that threatened her if she told anyone she was leaving. that thought couldn't leave monica's head.
"you do remember how you left things with me, don't you? a switch blade to my throat, telling me if i told anyone the truth it would be the end, for both of us."
"i was young, okay"
"YOU WERE YOUNG?? WHAT KIND OF EXCUSE IS THAT???!"
"Monica," sam whispered, looking around anxiously, "quiet down you don't want anyone to come in here" walking towards the enraged girl.
"if you literally step any closer i will fight you." monica screamed. it wasn't pure rage she was filled with, she was overcome with shock that sam actually came. and the lack of a tidy apology too? monica was just complete distraught and upset, it would never be the same with them.
they both just stared at eachother for a few seconds. talking through their eyes before sam spoke, "fine, i'm sorry monica, really" and she left.
