"you will see him again"
The setting sun cast a warm glow over the town, a serene contrast to the unsettling events that had shaken everyone to the core. The air was thick with anticipation as Monica emerged from the corner store, arms laden with groceries for Amber's upcoming gathering. The atmosphere was heavy with the looming memorial for Wes and Judy, a weight that everyone in town seemed to bear.Chad ambled along the sidewalk, lost in thought about the recent events. As he rounded the corner, he nearly collided with Monica, groceries swaying precariously in her arms.
"Whoa there, Chad! Watch where you're going," she chuckled, steadying the items in her grasp.
"Sorry, Monica," Chad stammered, feeling flustered and unable to mask his surprise at her sudden appearance. "I was just lost in my thoughts."
"No worries," she smiled warmly, her eyes sparkling with genuine concern. "You okay?"
"Yeah, just... thinking about everything," Chad muttered, shuffling his feet nervously.
Monica tilted her head, a touch of sympathy in her gaze. "It's a lot to process, isn't it? If you ever need to talk or anything, you know where to find me."
Chad nodded, grateful for her offer. "Thanks, Monica. You're always so kind."
She grinned, a light blush gracing her cheeks. "Well, someone's got to keep the peace around here, right? Now, I better get these to Amber before she gets in one of her moods."
Chad chuckled softly, feeling a warmth bloom in his chest as he watched Monica continue down the sidewalk. He couldn't help but admire her grace, her kindness, though he knew deep down she only saw him as a younger friend.
"Hey, wait," he followed up, "I'll walk you."
She started shaking her head, with a smile on her face as he backed up his subtle plead so she couldn't say no, "With everything that's going on at the moment, you shouldn't go all the way back by yourself. Come on, I'd feel bad if I just let you stroll to your death."
Monica looked up at him, with a laughing smile pinned on her perfect lips and a twinkle in her big eyes.
"You know, I'm older than you Chad, I'm capable of looking after myself without the help of a boy I babysat." She flicked his muscly forearm, humbling him and continuing to walk. "But if it's gonna make you feel better then fine."
And so the two started to walk down the road, to the Freeman house obvious to anyone else in the world. The two had been talking and laughing the whole way home. They were completely separate to the outside world, nothing could hurt them. Chad had make a joke about something stupid Mindy did before the attacks when Monica looked round the corner. She was almost at her house, it kind of made her sad that he had to leave now. He made her feel safe, seen. She had no sense of fear since they started walking, he had a way of making everything seem so quiet.
