TW: Gore, mention of death

"𝖸𝖾𝖺𝗁 𝖣𝖺𝖽, 𝖨'𝗆 𝗈𝗇 𝗆𝗒 𝗐𝖺𝗒."

Eve spoke into the phone she had tucked between her shoulder and cheek as she rummaged through her bag. The paper bag in one hand was holding open her bag as she untangled her keychain from her purse strap.

"Please be safe. I don't want you rushing just to bring ya ol' man some lunch." He laughed on the other line. She could near the sound of paper flipping on his end.
Eve snored as she tucked her wallet back into her purse. She grabbed the phone to hold it properly, walking down the busy street of Metropolis. She loved her home but she also found herself want to be somewhere quiet with land that stretched across the horizon.

"Please, you're paying for my education. The least I can do is bring you lunch." She laughed, just barely dodging passed people as she walked down the busy street.

"Baby I work so you can focus on your schoolwork and get a degree. Now do I have high expectations that you will become a famous writer and allow your father to retire early, Yes I do." He half-jokes, though something told Eve that he was being serious.

"Yeah, I got ya, Papa." She smiled. She looked up at the sky. It was a beautiful and the wasn't a cloud in the sky. The warmth of the sun felt soothing on her skin.

"Not to put any pressure on you honey, but you've seen me. I'm getting old. My back ain't exactly what it used to be." He added, causing Eve to smack her lips.

"Forty-five is hardly old. Your problem is that you just don't exercise." She stated, causing a loud gasp to leave her father.

"Ever Hasten, are you fat-shaming your own father?" He said dramatically.

" I should have never taught you that word." She groaned.

"Hey, you're the one that wanted me to be more 'wake' the kiddie slang." He retorts, causing Eve's eyes to roll at his lack of knowledge on modern slang.

"Yeah and I see it ain't working cause it's woke not wake. Jeez you were right, you are getting old." She laughed.

"All the more reason for you to become a world renown journalist so ya old man can rest." He laughed.

Eve mocked him word for word as he spoke. She had heard him say it a million times when she decided that journalism was what she want to pursue in college. Freshman year and she was already making progress.
