Elias pov
I tugged the sleeve of my hoodie over my cold hands as I briskly walk down the street, snow crunching underneath my feet as I pass a few small stores and tread towards the empty parking lot of a run down convenience store, my dirty blonde hair blowing in the wind as I looked up at the flickering sigh that illuminated the wet concrete below it. I quickly made my way inside the small store and walked down each aisle until a bag of gummy worms caught my eye, I pull them off the rack and take a brief look at the price before walking up to the counter and placing them Infront of the blonde girl behind it.
"That's gonna be $1.16, pretty boy." She said, with a small smirk, I sigh and reach into my pocket to pull out the money, I hand it to her before taking the bag off the counter and walking towards the heavy glass door, pushing it open with my shoulder as my hands were busy opening the pack of candy.
I plop down on the sidewalk Infront of the store and shove a few gummy worms in my mouth as I watched the cars pass by, the blinding headlights getting closer and lighting up the street for a few seconds before speeding away into the night.
... Wait, speaking of night what time is it? I pull out my phone from my pocket and turn it on, '11:03.'
'Oh, it only 11, I guess I can stay out here for a bit longer.' I stood up and ate a couple more gummy worms as I quickly race across the street, not even bothering to check for cars, I stood at the other side of the street looking through the holes of an old rusty gate that partially blocked the branches of the overgrown tree behind it, I stuff the bag of candy in my back pocket and put my fingers through the holes of the gate for leverage as I began climbing over it.
I pull myself over the gate, jumping down to let my feet land In the grass, I begin trudging through the tall plants, being careful not to step in any of the puddles that have been created from some of the melted snow.
I don't wanna mess up my shoes just yet. I push a few branches out of my way as I walk through the last brush of trees onto an empty grass field, the air was thick and foggy and barely granted me any sight as I wandered around aimlessly occasionally picking up rocks just to throw them into trees and watch all the crows that come flying out of the leaves, I eventually get bored of terrorizing defenseless animals and began running through the field, jumping around, singing some random shitty songs I had heard on the radio a few days prior. I stomped and rolled around in the snow my shoes and clothes not really doing much to protect my skin as I was now freezing, my clothes were soaked and my brown boots were covered in mud but I didn't care. I'll probably wash them tomorrow.
After a while I decided it was finally time to head back home, but there was no way I was gonna walk all the way home in my gross wet socks, I take my shoes off along with my socks and walk barefoot along the grass and cold concrete back to my house.
∆------------------------------------------------------∆
I walk up the old wooden steps of the front porch to my crappy house and bend down to grab the keys from underneath the doormat to unlock the door, I swing the door open and throw my shoes on the ground as I step inside.
I turn on the lights and glance into the living room.
"Dad?" I call out, but I get no response. 'Maybe he's just ignoring me again.' I close the door and make my way into the kitchen but he's nowhere to be seen, I walk up the stairs and down the hall to his room and carelessly throw the door open where I'm immediately met with the sight of his messy room.
"Pops?" I say, but once again, no response. Now super confused and slightly irritated I roam down the opposite side of the hall towards my room, pushing the door open I immediately begin pulling off my dampened clothes, I don't even fully get my pants off before shuffling over to my closet and opening it, I pull out a black and beige striped sweater and pair of brown baggy jeans, I quickly get dressed and slip on a pair of socks before running out of my room and back down the stairs, sliding across the wooden floor as I clumsily make my way into the living room and drop to the floor, peering underneath the couch to look for my other shoes, a pair of yellow high top converse, I spot them all the way in the back and reach under to grab them. I pull them from underneath my dusty couch and quickly began putting them on, I finish tying my laces and swipe my dad's car keys off the coffee table.
I unlock the front door and walk back out into the night, running towards the old red truck that we kept parked infront of the house, I open the driver side door and climb into the car, closing the door I put the key into the ignition and twist it a few times before the stupid thing finally starts working. I don't bother to put my seatbelt on before I quickly speed off down the road, recklessly swerving as I roll down the window letting the cold air rush in, I laugh and press down harder on the gass pedal . The streets where I live are completely dead around this time of night so I wasn't really worried about getting caught breaking a ton of traffic laws, I take a sharp to the left, tires screeching against the road and hitting the curb as I veer off the main road onto a dirt one.
I reach my hand out the window, letting it brush against the trees as I giggle looking at the road infront of me and turning on the radio to really set the vibe.
I run my cold fingertips through my hair and lean my head into my palm as I carelessly drove around, blasting music and happily mumbling along to the lyrics, I turn the corner on the right and snort as the car runs over a pothole causing a loud metallic thud.
I rub my eyes and yawn as I steadily began to feel burnt out all this adventuring took a bigger toll on me than I thought it would, but I don't think I wanna go back home tonight it feels so nice out here.
"I'll just sleep out here and go home tomorrow.. maybe. " I muttered, with a small grin driving off the road into a small wooded area behind some houses, I park in the grass and get out of the car, climbing up onto the hood pressing my cheek against the cold windshield as I curled up on the old car, it would probably be better if I slept inside the car but for some strange reason I just felt so much.. safer out here the sound of the trees rustling in the wind and the feeling of the breeze against my skin gave me a sense of comfort. A content sigh leaves my lips and I close my eyes pushing my cold nose into the soft fabric of my sleeve as I slowly dooze off into a peaceful sleep.
