Six months later...

Spencer had managed to lay low after his discharge from hospital. He rarely left his apartment. He was unable to support his team but he following the case they were working. A genius unsub had created a network of serial killers during the lockdown and then set them all on their tasks. Spencer had gotten work the Mr Renholdt had contracted his own strain of the virus which ultimately killed him. Spencer felt a swell of joy at the prospect of karma working its magic. He desperately wanted to help the team but Deputy Director Bailey refused to allow him to help. Spencer was curled up on his sofa, The Narrative of John Smith open his lap. He smiled softly as his eyes scanned the pages. A ringing attracted his attention. Spencer closed his book and reached forward to grab his mobile phone from the coffee table. A number he didn't recognise flashed up on the screen. He pressed accept and held the phone to his ear, eyebrows knotted in concern.

"Dr Reid here."

"Hello, Dr Reid. It's the Attorney General in Quantico." Spencer straightened, heckles raised, "I understand you were undercover for Counter Intelligence six months ago."

"That's correct."

"We know that you know about Gold Star. We have a task for you."

"What would you have me do?"

"We need you to interrogate Elias Voit." Spencer's heart dropped into the pit of his stomach.

Spencer had never seen the BAU offices so empty. It was deadly silent. SWAT officers lined the corridors. Spencer allowed his long legs to walk in strides to his destination. His eyes fell upon a familiar door with a silver plaque emblazoned with Interrogation Room. Spencer closed his eyes and let out a long slow breath as he tried to compose himself. With a shaky hand, Spencer reached out for the door handle. As the door opened, he noticed Elias seated at the other side of the table dressed in orange scrubs. Elias simply smirked in response.
