Just a small disclaimer. Hanji will be portrayed as a she/her in this story, although Isayama stated, that Hanjis pronouns are they/them. This is due to the fact that I've learned this later on during watching the anime first and to be honest for me she was female from the beginning. I'm sorry if anybody feels disrespected by that, since it's not my intention.

We were on our way to the fair, that took place every june in Shiganshina. Sasha, Mikasa and me had dressed up for that occasion. It was special for us, since we're usually wearing our uniforms. All of us put our best dresses on and Mikasa had her inevitable scarf wrapped around her neck. We'd meet up with Eren, Connie, Jean and the others there.
It's been the same for years, but it's the first time for Sasha. At her little village, festivities like this, didn't happen. Her big brown eyes were wide open, as we walked through the crowd to show her everything. As soon as she spotted the first booth that sold food, she's gone. Mikasa grinned at me, knowingly and we started to laugh. Sasha was in heaven. Shoving people aside, she managed to get a first glimpse at the offer. Drool was dripping down her lips and she ordered one of each. With full hands she came back to us, smiling. We walked a bit further.
«Look the fortune-teller is here, too»,Mikasa looked at me with a soft smile. She knew I had a thing for stuff like this. «We'll wait outside, Sasha is occupied anyways», she waved me off, to go inside the tent. Glad to have such good friends, I walked inside.
It was dark and gloomy, everything colored in deep red and purple. The few candles couldn't light it up enough. On the floor, right at the back of the space, sat an elderly lady with long grey hair. She looked fragile, almost like she's at the brink of death, but she's been like this for years and until now she's still alive.

Mike

Erwin told me to meet him and Hanji at the usual corner. Normally it would be to go to the bar, but the fair is a welcome variety. The last expeditions had worn us out, not only the three of us, but the whole company. The plan tonight was to drink on our fallen comrades, in honor of their dedicated hearts. Although our faces are well known anyways, we try to be as inconspicuous as possible. I felt naked without the uniform and coat, and a few people give me angry looks, as I walk along. Sure, how dare I to survive, if so many good soldiers die. The hatred towards the survey corps is understandable in some ways for me. Although it's not the fault of our legion that so many died. But joining us was their ticket for death. I sniffed around, the scent of food from the fair was already hanging in the air. Also the smell of people, a lot of them. Wearing the 3DMG would've avoided those looks. With a deep sigh I moved on.
«Mike!», Erwins unmistakable voice echoed. «Over here!» If it wasn't for Erwins voice I'd certainly recognize them because of Hanjis behavior. She's waving with both hands, like a madman. Chatting, we walked further to where the fun awaited us. Most of the survey corps will be there, just to chat, make friends, drink and enjoy themselves. So did we, we'll, except for Levi. He stayed out of things like this.
On our way to the center of the fair we passed tons of young people, some with familiar faces, as they are part of the survey corps.
A small group of girls caught my eye. Mikasa, our top recruit of the year, Sasha, the potato girl and (Y/N). Admitted, I have a thing for her, from the moment I first saw her. Her talent impressed me right at the start. She's not that outgoing towards people outside her regular group, but her charisma drew me in every time I'm around her.
We walked past them and without noticing us, she entered a dark purple tent.
«Fortune-teller, interesting», I murmured. «What did you say?»,Hanji turned around to me. «It's nothing...» I'd really like to know what she's asking.

«What's your desire to know, my child?»,she asked in a dark, husky voice, as I moved closer. Her light blue eyes, clear and filled with wit and spirit, despite the rest of her appearance.
«Your prediction came true, I got into the survey corps. I'm happy, but I'd really like to know if romance would be a possibility for the future.» She chuckled and said:«Someday it will be for sure. Let's see, what the cards have to say.» Her hand reached up the sleeve of her coat and took out a deck of cards I'm familiar with.
True, I didn't really believe the predictions she made, but it was always fun if some of the things happened. My life went on, whatever those cards said, but it's worth a shot, to have the possibility to glimpse into the future. So far, she has been right about some things, coincidence or not. Her frail fingers started to move, shuffling the cards. «Choose one», she said, spreading them onto the ground.
Thinking about which to choose, I dropped myself to my knees in front of her.
The card I choose had a woman, holding open the jaw of a lion, on it, on the bottom the word 'strength'.
«What's that supposed to mean?», I asked her, confused about the picture on the card. «You asked about romance and got an answer. It could have been an unluckier draw. This card stands for a passionate, fiery romance. It can either suggest a strong relationship or one that can be prone to anger, jealousy or other emotional explosions. Alternatively, the love meaning of this card is one of compassion, empathy and inner strength, those things may be qualities that are bound to attract the partners you need.» She looked at me, smiling.«Your resilience will greatly aid you, and your fearlessness means that you should have no issues speaking your mind.» «So there's no dark, handsome stranger outside waiting for me?», I asked her, trying to process what she said. «Maybe or maybe not. Who knows. It's up to you to decide what to make of that knowledge.» The old woman stays silent again and I left the tent.
Outside again it took me a second to get used to the brightness again. «What did she tell you this time?», Mikasa approached me. «Uhm, nothing that's important I guess, at least no clear predictions.» She sighs and we continued walking through the people and along the booths.
