"Oh Katie," my mom sniffled.

I rolled my eyes dramatically, with a smile. "Oh, mom. Please, stop blubbering, I'll be fine," I cooed.

"I know, I know. But I worry about you. I'm crying tears of joy too, that you're all grown up and going to University!"

"You know they call it college in America right?"

"Shut up."

I laughed again, shaking my head. "Man I'm going to miss you," I whispered hoarsely.

I could barely find the self-control not to start crying myself. I pulled my mom into the tightest hug I could, my arms remembering the feel of her body.

"I'll miss you too sweetie. But you'll visit, right? In the summer?"

I pulled back and nodded, pressing a kiss to her temple. "Of course! Me and Lexi will both be back. You can't get rid of me that easy," I teased.

She smiled, tears still in the corners of her eyes. The honking of Lexi's mom's horn sounded loud. "Come on! We need to hit the road if we don't want to miss our plane!" Lexi shouted out the back window.

I rolled my eyes at my mom who laughed softly then sighed, swiping my hair behind my ear. "Good luck Katie bear. I'm proud of you."

I sniffled. "Aw, mom. Goodbye," I murmured, voice think.

I hugged her again and kissed both her cheeks and her forehead. Then, running down our drive I climbed into Lilian's car, grinning at her. She grinned back at me and wrapped her hand around mine, entwining our fingers. Lexi smiled, pressed a kiss to my cheek and then lifted our hands and waved to my mom.

"Bye girls! I love you!"

"Bye, mom!"

"Bye Fiona!"

"Bye Lilian!"

Gary walked out the house seconds later, my mom's new husband, whom she had married in the July after mine and Lexi's prom. We'd been bridesmaids and Lexi's mom; Lilian had been my mom's maid of honor. Me and Lexi got so drunk at the reception that half way between ripping each other's clothes off, we fell asleep.

Gary wrapped his arm around my mom's waist. She looked up at him, grinning broadly. He grinned down at her, kissed her swiftly and then waved at us. I grinned at them both and then we were off. I was going to the college of my dreams with the girl of my dreams, a beaming smile on my face.

Life was perfect.
