You and Steven have been friends since you were young. You never really became friends until he saved the galaxy. Since then you've both kind of been inseparable. You talk to each other about your problems, things you can't tell your "normal" friends and family.
As of lately though, you'd thoughts have gotten darker, too dark. So much so, you don't even want to tell Steven. Steven, the boy you share everything with, juice boxes, deepest darkest secrets, etc.
Today, you were both supposed to meet behind the light house, your normal spot. You've been waiting awhile now, staring at the fence that stops you from just walking off the edge. You started thinking about everything thats been going wrong lately and how if you just climb over that fence...
"Y/n!" Steven yelled breathlessly, running up the hill. You head snapped away from the fence.
"Y/n? Hey, are you okay?" He sat down in front of you, putting his hand over yours. You blushed at the contact, you like Steven, but you're sure it's one sided.
"I'm fine Steven, just tired I guess," you answer, looking down.
"Y/n, we're each other's go to person when we have stuff we need to get off our chests, just tell me what's up," he says, eyes gleaming at you.
"I really am just tired Steven," you pull your hand away. If you told how you've been feeling, what you've done. He wouldn't want to do this anymore, be friends, talk. You'd be alone and at that point, what is the point?
"Ugh, why won't you just talk to me?!" He unexpectedly yelled. To your surprise, Steven glowed pink and his pupils, were diamond shaped.
"Steven-?" Your eyes filled with tears at the sudden outburst. You always mess things, it always seems like everything is your fault.
"Oh no, Y/n," he stood up and looked at you with a guilty look, reaching out a hand but he pulled it back, "I'm sorry."
Steven left, you didn't even see him leave, it's almost like super speed. You couldn't hold back the tears anymore. You couldn't help but feel blame. You blamed yourself for Steven yelling and leaving. You're not sure if you can take this anymore.
It was past midnight now, Steven was laying awake staring at his ceiling. He was recalling what happened earlier. He had glowed, at you, you're suppose to be his person. He loves you, he hates himself for even being mad in the first place. He's noticed you talking less and less at your meet ups. You've been looking sadder lately, almost depressed.
But, you have the right to your feelings and you'll tell him when your ready. He sighed and pulled the blanket over his head, he just wanted to be there for you. He stared at his lockscreen, it was a picture of you. He received a text, it was you.
I'm sorry
Y/n
No, I'm|
StevenHe heard lion scratching at the door, he groaned and rolled out of bed. He walked down the stairs to let him in. When he opened the door, the animal refused to come inside and became very vocal.
"What? What is it buddy?" Steven asked worryingly, he climbed onto lion, only for him to run to the side of the temple and stop. Steven looked around and saw nothing, he sighed.
"Seriously lion? I'm trying to text Y/n and figure out what's wrong with her..." He trailed off in his statement when he saw someone on top of the cliff, on the other side of the fence. His heart raced, he tried to focus to see if he could see who it was. Nothing could ever prepare him to see you on top of that cliff.
It clicked, the text, you were going to take an attempt on your own life. You had your back turned, you were holding onto the fence. You were terrified, but then suddenly you let go.
Steven jumped into action, using his powers, he sped himself into a jump. He landed on the cliff, directly behind you. Holding you in place with his body, he held onto the fence.
"Y/n, please, climb back over the fence," he said quietly into your ear, you felt shivers down your spine. You've never heard him sound so serious. But you couldn't move, you were now scared of falling. Instead of encouraging you, Steven lifted you over the fence himself, never once letting you go.
"Steven, I'm sorry I-" you choked on the sob coming from your mouth. You covered your mouth and curled yourself forward onto the ground. Steven wrapped his arms around and began to cry. He was so relieved you were safe.
He backed away from the hug and looked at you. Then his whole body glowed pink again. You flinched, afraid of an outburst, Steven took in a deep breath."Is... is this my fault?" He asked quietly, looking away, tears built up in his eyes again, "is this because of me?!"
"What?" Your voice cracked, you looked exhausted, your eyes burned since you've been crying for hours.
"I'm sorry I yelled, I'm sorry I haven't been there for you or at least asked if you were okay. I've only been talking about myself lately," Tears rolled down his face, "I left you no room to speak, I'm so sorry Y/n.""Steven, no, if... if I wanted to tell you, I could've, but I just, something in me told me not to seek help," you looked down at your knees. Steven places his hand under your chin and lifted your head so you looked him in the eyes.
"Y/n, you can't do that, you can't tell yourself not to ask for help, if you're suffering, I need to be there for, and to find out you're suicidal by watching you try to... I can't... I need you to talk me!" Steven told you, still holding your chin to keep you from looking away, you pulled away ashamed, he moved his head with yours, trying to reestablish eye contact, " I... I love you Y/n."
"You what?" You whispered, freezing up.
"I'm sorry, I... I didn't want to tell you like this, I wanted to be romantic and stuff," he blushed, taking your hand in his, " but I know it needed to be said today and now."
"Steven, I love you too," you smiled and blushed, your face was burning up. You've always thought Steven never returned your feelings. Hearing him confess to you was completely shocking.
Steven smiled wide and pulled you into hug. You laughed at how tightly he held you.
"I'm sorry, I'm just so excited," Steven apologized for squeezing you.
"It's okay." You smiled, then your smile faded, so did Steven when he looked at you, "I'm gonna do better, it's not gonna be easy, but... you make want to try."
"You're going to get better Y/n," Steven reassured you, giving you a determined look. You give a small laugh but sighed.
"Everything I've done, it's just a lot, I'm scared, what if years from now I'll still want to hurt myself? Will it ever end?" Tears began to spring up, Steven quickly grabbed your hand.
"Calm down, we'll start slow, okay?" He rubbed small circles on your hand, you felt calm at his touch. You leaned your head on his shoulder and watched the stars.
