Chapter 7: Betrayal

The next day at school, Emma noticed something strange about Tyler. He was avoiding her gaze and seemed distant.

"Is everything okay?" she asked him during lunch.

Tyler hesitated before answering. "Yeah, I'm fine. I just have some stuff going on, you know?"

Emma knew that something was off, but she didn't press the issue. She had her own worries to deal with, like the fact that Rachel was still out there and likely looking for revenge.

Later that day, Emma received a text message from Tyler. It simply read, "We need to talk. Meet me after school."

Emma's heart sank as she read the message. She had a feeling that this was not going to be a good conversation.

As she met up with Tyler after school, he seemed nervous and fidgety. "I need to tell you something," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Emma braced herself for the worst. "What is it?"

Tyler took a deep breath before continuing. "I've been working with Rachel."

Emma felt like the ground had been pulled out from under her. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. "What do you mean?"

Tyler looked down at his feet. "I've been feeding her information about our plans. I didn't mean for it to go this far, but she's been paying me a lot of money, and I couldn't resist."

Emma felt sick to her stomach. How could Tyler betray them like this? "Why are you telling me now?"

Tyler looked up at her with tears in his eyes. "Because I can't keep living like this. I need to make things right. I'm sorry, Emma."

Emma didn't know what to say. She was hurt and angry, but she also knew that Tyler was in a tough position. She didn't know what she could do to help him, but she knew that she couldn't just turn her back on him.

As she left Tyler to deal with his own demons, Emma knew that things were only going to get more complicated from here on out. She was determined to stay strong and fight for what was right, but she also knew that the road ahead was going to be filled with even more danger and betrayal.
