James did not like Regulus.

He did not like his best friend's brother.

He just needed to keep on repeating it in his head and eventually his heart would stop skipping a beat whenever he saw him — he was sure of that.

He hoped, at last.

Okay, it was a stupid idea to go to the first stage performance that the wizard had but Sirius wanted to make fun of them in case it went bad. James knew better. To clarify: Sirius wanted to cheer his little brother on, in secret, and beat everyone else up who made fun of them.

James did not like Regulus.

He especially did not like him when he was hitting those damn drums with that smug smirk of his, wearing leather pants and a black button up, which was halfway unbuttoned to show his bare chest, glistening from sweat.

"I'm going to get some drinks for us" James said, taking a deep breath. They didn't have the usual debate about only bringing Butterbeer — mostly because James usually started it. Today, James thought that maybe, maybe, it was finally time to drink something. Otherwise he wouldn't know how to survive these next thirty minutes — maybe even an hour. Sirius couldn't tell them exactly.

James had finished the first butterbeer with a little bit of alcohol before the act had even started. The second followed soon after. His body felt light and his face felt hot. It was better that way though. He couldn't see Regulus that clearly then. He was more like a blur now, thankfully.

However, he could still see him standing up behind his drum set. James was on his third beer then. The youngest Black walked off-stage for a moment before he came back a few seconds later. Adjusting the violin on his shoulder, he hit a string for a test, nodding towards Evan, who grinned. James' jaw just dropped to the ground as he stared at him, not having the strength to look away.

"You're staring, Potter" Remus whispered, lifting his hand to close his jaw for him again. He smirked, to which James tried to relax again.

Sirius' brother.

Regulus was Sirius' brother.

His best friend's brother.

After two songs, Regulus had put away the Violine again. James thought that he could relax now but he was so wrong, for the next song send shivers down his spine.

"I'm starving, darling"

James felt like he would fold any second now.

"Let me put my lips to something. Let me wrap my teeth around the world" Regulus grinned, eyes roaming the room until they met James'.

"Start carving, darling"

James' cheeks were burning so hot, he feared that Sirius might be able to see it too, even in the darkness of the bar.

Regulus just grinned wider upon noticing as he continued to sing, holding his gaze.

"Let me see the heat get to. Let me watch the dressing start to peal" Regulus' eyes never wavered from James, who at this point really felt like something was wrong with his lungs for he couldn't breathe. Regulus had taken away his breath.

"Are you okay, James? You look really red. Do you need some fresh air?" Sirius asked, the caring friend that he was. James just shook his head, not wanting to go away now. Not as long as they were still on stage — as long as Regulus was still on stage. He couldn't say anything though, for he didn't trust his voice anymore.
