Only 10 minutes left by getting independence from my parents, being completely grown and adult. There happened so much in these 18 years, it's incredible. I know that I'll get tons of congratulations at my mobile so I mentally prepared myself for it. I hate to get attention. It just doesn't feel right to me.
The only thing, what has been really hard for me in those 18 years, was that move from Paris to Dortmund. I didn't know anything about the language. I couldn't speak any word. I knew it wouldn't be easy living here, but I didn't expected that it would take so long to have one good friend and finding something interesting. 4 years have passed since I left France. I didn't speak to any of my French friends again, as much as I wanted it. We had so many wonderful moments.
I wonder what my mom's going to give to me. I got a lot of big presents already in the past two years. There isn't any improvement possible, I think. I close my eyes, counting the last seconds of my childhood. Then the clock turned to midnight. I'm 18.
My mobile flashes like 10 times only a few seconds past midnight. I scrolled through the messages. Suki, Lukas, Natalie, Florian, Doreen, my cousin, Jasmine, Paul, Liam and Maria. I quickly read them all and wrote back a short 'thank you'. I close my eyes again and fell asleep soon.
In the morning
"Darling!", my mom yells as I stepped out of the door of my room. "Happy 18th birthday! You grew so fast! Oh my god I don't wanna cry."
"Mom. It's okay. I'm just 18. It's just a number.", I smiled to her, trying to calm her down.
She's always that hysteric and emotional. In every situation she's always not far to be about to cry but she's getting her act's together.
"C'mon. I made you breakfast and then, when you're back from school, I have something else for you. I told my boss that it's your 18th birthday today and he set me free for the whole day.", she smiles at me.
She is just the best mom a child could wish. I entered the kitchen and my mouth dropped slowly open. Pancakes, cupcakes, toast with jam, juice, tea and strawberries with chocolate. Everything delicious is standing right in front of me.
"Mom. Is everything for me? Are you serious?"
She nods 'yes' and told me to sit down. I didn't really know what to eat first, I love everything of these. I started with the strawberries and then ate a cupcake. I totally adore those mornings. But as beautiful everything began as terrible it has to end. The bus just arrived and I had to go to school.
"Bye mom. I'll see you later.", I said as I gave her a peck on her cheek.
I hate to go to school on my birthday. Everyone's congratulation me. Even those to who I haven't spoken at any time. It's really weird but I guess that's just Germany. When I saw Suki, she hugged me tight and gave me a little present. It's a bracelet with 'our' date when we first met on it. It's really beautiful and definitely one of my favourite gifts ever.
"Thank you so much, Sunny. It's stunning!"
"It's nothing special. You're my best friend. That goes without saying.", she replies, smiling at me.
The rest of the school day was just like the others: stupid stuff that I won't ever need anymore. Well, and some good wishes for my birthday. I'm really happy as I can leave these building for today.
Arriving back home, my mom was already waiting for me. She let me in and brought me lunch. Pasta, my favourite. We talked a little about what happened in school. She also wants to know about that match tonight, Borussia Dortmund against Hoffenheim. It's kinda weird, because she's never been interested in any sport but gymnastics.
"And who's your favourite?"
"Well. I prefer this guy, Marco Reus. But our Maths teacher, Mr. Götze. His son plays at Borussia Dortmund. He had to talk to him on Wednesday during the lesson and suddenly, Mario entered the room and I was like: He just can't be. But he was.", I answered proudly.
I don't know why I am proud of it. It's just a football player. But he's really good looking.
"So. Enough of talking. Now close your eyes and give me your hand. I have something for you, as I promised!", she said, grinning at me.
I did as she said. She takes my hand because I forget to give it to her and she leads me somewhere. I'm not good in trusting people so I'm walking as slowly as possible. When I opened my eyes, she handed me an envelope. I looked first a bit confused at her but then slowly opened it.
"Oh my god mom.", that is something, what I expected the last.
