Courtship

3rd POV:

Growing up Rod's mother taught him proper yet a little off way of courting women. Although she didn't really have much time to teach him more... Civil ways of courtship. As he grew up, he sort of corrected some of the things that she half hazardly taught him. Although he'd hate to admit she still had some influence on some courting decisions he made.

This same statement could almost be made for Mary as well. Except she never learned how to correctly court men. Nor did she find anything off with how she went about it. To be fair though Elizabeth did try to correct the more dangerous courting decisions their mother instilled to them. But as stated before some dangerous things did stick....

The day of their date Mary was a nervous wreck. She hadn't been on a date in so long that she didn't really know how to act around him. So she like every time she had a problem, went to her sister for advice.

"I need some advice for my date tonight. Can you help me?" Mary asked while twiddling her thumbs

"Oh? Well first off are you sure it was a date or like hanging out like with a friend with the guy?" Elizabeth asked

"Well he didn't really specify he just asked if I wanted to go out sometime.." Mary answered

"Okay the first thing you need to do is subtly ask if it's a romantic date or platonic date. Then go from there."

"Should I just ask if it is?"

"No, no, no! Then he might change his mind.. I've had that happen a few times, so try to subtly ask if its a date, date or a meeting with friends."

"Alright what else?" Mary asked

"Well if it's a platonic date then just act like you would with friends."

"But what if it's romantic?" Mary asked

"Well if it's romantic be on your best behavior. Don't show any red flags and most importantly do not express what you want out of the relationship yet. It's not right to spring all your expectations for the relationship on the first date."

"What if he wants to do... Stuff..?" Mary mumbled

"Then you go to the bathroom and ask a waiter or waitress to call me and I'll castrate him." Elizabeth joked. "But in all seriousness tell him no and if he doesn't listen then you come and call me, and Dale will come get you." Elizabeth explained

"Alright... Well I think that's all my questions.." Mary said slowly walking out of the room

Mary tried her best with her makeup. It was a given that she was horrible at makeup given that she and Dylan never really went out at all after they got married. So, she wasn't the greatest at the whole makeup scene but she tried her hardest. She decided on wearing a white dress that went to her thighs with light gray leggings underneath to cover herself. Her shoes were black flats with white socks that hid under her leggings. She wore light pink lipstick with barley noticeable pink eye shadow.

When it came time for the date, she had Dale drop her off.

"So... Is your date with the Reverend?" Dale asked

"W-what? Of course not!" Mary lied being very flustered

"Uh huh, well don't worry I won't tell Elizabeth about it." Dale comforted

"How did you figure out it was him?" Mary asked

"Well if it was someone Elizabeth didn't hate you would have told her who it was. That coupled with the fact he's one of the only single guys in this town that's in your age range." Dale explained
