Athena had been hanging around Olympus when she noticed something going on in her temple.
Discussed to find a mortal woman being raped in her temple. But she couldn't punish Poseidon. So she transformed Medusa.
Her golden locks fell out replaced with living snakes, her skin turned green and scaly. She still kept her pretty face but instead of making men fall in love it now terrified them. She could turn men to stone just by making eye contact.
Athena hoped this would protect her from men in the future. And she punished Medusa's two sisters for skipping out on giving their offerings.
She turned them in to immortals, snake like ladies. With scaly tales, snake hair and forked tongues. But unlike Medusa they couldn't turn men to stone.
Athena had them look after their sister now pregnant with Poseidon's baby.
