Kamala Karim was stuck. In many ways than one. For starters, she was the only one in her family (extended and all) who was neither a gifted engineer nor a talented teen who could fight against the Problem. Her cousin George considered himself the black sheep of the family, but both knew deep down, no matter how doting the Karim family was to Kamala, they knew not what to do with her.
Kamala contemplated running away many times. But where would she run to? She had no talent, no genius brain to help in the industries (as an engineer or something). She was good with research (good is a humble way put it) and weirdly good at finding loopholes in legal contracts. She was street-smart, quick on her feet, knew her way around and out of trouble, and had a network stretching across England. Okay, maybe she was worth something to the agencies and industries. But Kamala didn't want to waste her talents there. However, when George phoned her one night, saying that she should come to London and help him and this Lockwood boy with their business and the caretaking of their house (but mostly taking care of them), Kamala couldn't resist the experience. An independent organisation, lack of adult supervision, and a vision to become the most outstanding agency within its own rights: sounds about perfect to the ears of this Karim girl.
So despite her parents' blatant rejections of the idea of settling down at the central hub of danger and horror, little miss Karim had packed her bags and was on her way to London.Because somewhere amidst this crazy opportunity was a chance to track down Mr Loverman, a young boy she'd fallen for five months ago while visiting George in London.
