Let me give you a short description about the families.
Sabrina Andrews adopted Anna when she was 5 years old. She works as a waitress in a cafe. Before that Anna was in some other foster family. Sabrina looked like a kind woman but inside she treats Anna like trash. She adopted her just for incentives she will get from the government. She makes Anna do all the house work and on top of that bring men every weekend in their house who along with her treats Anna even worse.
On the other hand, the Carter family is like a normal household except that they act cold towards anyone other than family. They have a billion dollar family business. James' wife Emily died 10 years ago due to cancer. After her death the family turned cold as their mother was pregnant with a girl.
Just a month ago James met Sabrina in a cafe where they grew feelings for each other after meeting up for a month. James proposed her for marriage and she obviously agreed for money.
