Chapter Fourteen... Which Guy Do I Go For? My Ex... Or His Best Friend?

I ran from the closet. And I mean ran.

Russell had confused me. Why hadn't he made a move on me when James and I weren't on the path to repairing our broken relationship?! Why hadn't he kissed me then, told me he loved me?! A part of me had always liked him, and I know now, looking back, that had James and I never gotten together I would have accepted Russell's offer for a date...

So why did he do this now?

I made my way to my French class, where James sat waiting for me. I felt a twinge of guilt in the pit of my stomach as I walked up and nervously sat down next to him.

"Are you alright?" he asked, eyeing me.

"No," I replied honestly.

"What's wrong?" James asked.

"Russell," I sighed. "He uh... he kissed me."

"What?" James frowned, looking angry.

"He dragged me into a closet," I groaned. "And... kissed me."

"But... why?" he asked, confused.

"Because..." I sighed. "He loves me too. And... he thinks I should choose him over you."

James looked defeated. Like as if he'd already lost...

"What did you tell him?" he asked.

"Well, nothing," I admitted. "I kind of... ran away..."

"Are you... are you gonna choose him over me?" he questioned sadly.

"No," I said confidently. "If he had've asked me a week ago, or even a couple of days ago, I would have gotten with him..."

"So..."

"I need time to think. But I'm only needing time to think because I don't wanna just... leave him hanging. I have to at least put some thought into it, for Russ' sake."

"Okay, well that's pretty stupid," James snapped. "Either you wanna be with me... or you wanna be with him. You can't tell me you wanna be with me, but that you have to think about it!"

"I can! Okay? It's my choice. So let me choose..."

And I moved to an empty desk, angry.

It was only going to get worse.

Russell cornered me as I walked to my car in the car park after school finished.

"So... are you gonna talk to me about that kiss?" he asked.

I threw my books into my car bitterly.

"Don't hassle me, Russ," I warned. "James is cranky, and I don't want you two to have another fight in the car park."

"Like last time... after he cheated on you... that fight?" he asked sarcastically. "And you told him that I kissed you... why did you do that?"

"Because I'm honest!" I snapped.

"Ease up, Katie," he breathed.

"No! You and James are both hassling me to pick you, and I need to think! I like you both! So give me space to breathe and let me pick, or I'll tell both of you to stick the idea of being with me up your ass!"
