I opened my eyes, blinking a few times.
...
...
I realized that I was inside a bus. I looked over the seat in front of me, seeing a bunch of guys and girls. Some were listening to music, others were talking, and some were sleeping. They all looked around my age...fifteen or sixteen. I paused for a moment, thinking. I had no idea how I ended up here.
...
...
The last thing I remembered was...
nothing...
I could feel cold sweat rolling down my face. How could I not remember anything until now? I looked outside. The bus was rumbling along a bumpy road. It looked like I was in a desert. But where was I going? I didn't know anyone here. It was scaring me a bit.
"All right, cupcakes, listen up!" A shout coming from ahead grabbed my attention. I was startled, jumping from my seat and fixing myself up. I started playing with the bracelet I was wearing, raising my head to look ahead. I didn't know why, but I found myself calming down, touching the cold metal around my wrist.
There was a person standing in the front. He looked like a coach.
He wore a baseball cap, which was pulled low over his hair. I could just make out his beady eyes. He had a wispy goatee and had a sour expression, as if he had eaten a sour food whole. His buff arms and chest pushed against a bright orange polo shirt. He wore spotless white nylon workout pants and Nikes. Hanging around his neck was a whistle, and clipped to his belt was a megaphone. He was pretty short for a man.
"Stand up, Coach Hedge!" One of the students sarcastically called, when he stood up in the aisle.
"I heard that!" The coach yelled. His eyes scanned around for the speaker, until he spotted me. Shivers went down my spine. I knew right then and there that I had been caught. I was going to get in so much trouble. I didn't belong here, and the coach obviously knew that, too. I watched his scowl deepen. I thought for a moment that he would start yelling, pointing an accusing finger at me, telling everyone that I was an imposter.
But just then, Coach Hedge looked away, clearing his throat. "We'll arrive in five minutes! Stay with your partner. Don't lose your worksheet. And if any of you precious little cupcakes cause any trouble on this trip, I will personally send you back to campus the hard way." He told us, picking up a baseball bat, and swung it as if he was hitting a home run.
"Can he talk to us that way?" I heard a guy ask, sitting behind me. "Always does. This is the Wilderness School. 'Where kids are the animals.'" A girl replied in a joking manner.
"This is some kind of mistake," The boy said. "I'm not supposed to be here." I blinked dumbfoundedly. He wasn't supposed to be here either? Just like me? I felt a hand tapping my upper left arm. I turned to see an elfish boy with curly black hair, slightly pointy ears, with a cheerful baby face. I don't think I knew him. He met my eyes and tilted his head, as if he was telling me to join in on the conversation. It was a brief second before he turned, laughing at the boy.
"Yeah, right, Jason. We've all been framed. I didn't run away six times. Piper didn't steal a BMW." I turned around, too, deciding to join in.
I turned to look at the boy and girl. The boy was wearing a purple t-shirt and some jeans and sneakers. He had electric blue eyes, and close-cropped blonde hair. I had also noticed a small scar on the corner of his lip. Not only did he have a kind and gentle face, but having an athletic build, girls would fall head over heels for him. He looked kinda cute, I wasn't going to lie.
