On that sunlit, ethereal day in March, Gregory House's heart grew twice in size when he asked Madelyn Gilmore to marry him. It was only about eight months ago that they were each completely unaware of one another's existence. And in the short amount of time they'd spent together, they couldn't imagine their futures apart.
Being the brilliant doctor of two decades that he was, House had spent about half his life as a witness to the life cycle: birth, survival, and death. Whether he was experiencing it himself, or serving it by way of his medical degree, House had developed a strong impression for the trajectory of life. Now, however, he was trialing the biggest challenge yet; promising his own life to another.
Yes, House was willing to give everything and anything he could to the woman who had only started to begin to change his perspective. His promise to do so came with delicate, true words and an insatiable desire to love and protect Madelyn. The only thing it didn't come with: a ring.
"I want you to pick it out yourself. I don't trust my taste." is what he told her.
"I want it to be perfect and charming for you." is what he meant in his heart.
Madelyn Gilmore's life suddenly became a heavenly symphony of sensations just when it had seemed to be falling into ground-splitting shambles. Without a shadow of a doubt, she agreed to marry House and all that he was: flawed, grouchy, a perfectionist, gentle, compassionate, funny, and generous.
"Of course, I'll marry you! " is what she told him
"I have never wanted anything or anyone more, I can't wait to marry you!" is what she meant in her heart.
Only one decision was left to be made, and finally, Madelyn and House had made up their minds:
Their 'happy little accident' growing inside of her would soon be the ultimate marriage consummation when it would arrive to its parents in October.
