Kyle was nice. He had a big smile that seemed to go around for everybody. His grin was kind of contagious and I caught myself, on more than one occasion, smiling. Simply because he was. We sat on the floor in a circle for a while and listened to eachother talk about random stuff. I usually just sat and listened, but once in a while I would put some of my own input into the conversation.

"Hey Red, you mind if I snapchat this and show you in it possibly?" Bryan was pulling out his phone as he asked and I thought about it for a few seconds before nodding cautiously. It's not like anybody will recognise me. Suddenly Bryan yelling
into the phone pulled my attention to him.

"This is Johnnie," Bryan pushed the camera into Johnnies face, "This is Kyle," the phone was pushed into Kyle's face also while he smiled contagiously and laughed, "and this is our newest friend Red!" The camera was put fully on my still smiling face and I blushed slightly at the attention.

"She's adorable!" Johnnie yells out just as the video ends. I look at Johnnie in shock and he shrugs at me with a smile stretched out across his face. "What? You are." I blush more and scrunch up my body awkwardly.

Kyle's brown eyes made their way to me. "What exactly happened to you?" I looked down at my knees. I hadn't thought about it all day. My bruises or even my father. I hadn't felt the need to. I swallowed and looked up at him. His eyes were curious and waiting.

"You don't have to say anything if you don't want to." Johnnie said with a sadness in his eyes and Bryan nodded with an empathetic expression.

"No, honestly its fine," I looked between the three of them before crossing my legs underneath me. I started twirling my fingers and cracking my knuckles trying to postpone telling them my secret. I felt like I could trust them, and they had treated me better than most. I tossed around what to say in my head before I looked up finally deciding on the correct words.

"My mother left my dad and I five years ago. After she left, my dad started going out and coming back extremely early in the morning. He would slur his words and trip everywhere, but he was still my dad. He would still tell me he loved me every night when he would put me to bed. I miss that.." I closed my eyes and fought back the tears that came with those memories.

"But then he changed. I would come home from school and do my chores, but he would tell me I did them wrong and to redo them and clean up better. I would work harder and clean everything twice but he would still tell me it looked horrible. After that the insults started. He would say little stuff every once in a while. I wasn't overweight by any means, but if I got a second helping of something he'd laugh at me and ask if I should really keep eating. My confidence withered down to nothing after a while" my face was blank as I thought back to the old times.

"Then one day he just snapped. I was in the kitchen washing the dishes when he came in. He was stumbling everywhere and I could tell he wasn't himself. When he saw me it was like a bull seeing a red flag. He grabbed the dishes from my hands and started breaking them. Screaming at me saying 'you can't do anything right'. 'You're exactly like that whore you had as a mother and she didn't even want you!' I was crying and.. and I can't really remember what happened next. I only have flashes. I remember him punching me. Everywhere. His knee was digging into my stomach and I tried to get away from him but I was small" tears were running down my face and I felt Bryan move over and wrap his arm around my shoulders. I shook and sobbed as I tried to pull back from the vivid memory. I could still feel his hands on my throat when I screamed.

He was my worst nightmare. I hated him with every bone in my body as his disgusting face that I once loved swirled around my mind.
