"Emylia, hurry up! We're going to be late!"
"Late for what? It's not even dark yet! The cute ones don't show up until late. You know that!" Emylia called back to her friend.
"You know as well as I do that we have to start scouting before all the whores show up!"
"Cara, no slut shaming!"
"Sorry, you know I have trouble watching my mouth."
"Yeah, I know all too well."
Emylia grabbed her clutch, slipped a few dollars into it, and exited the house. After living together as roommates all through college, the girls decided to move into a real house together and pursue their dreams by each other's sides.
Cara had her life together. She was doing great in the modeling industry, just as she dreamed she would.
Emylia, however, had no idea what she wanted to do with her life. She was tired of moping around all the time. She was ready for change, so for the first time since her freshman year of college, she was going out to have genuine fun.
Cara followed her out the door and into the car they had both pitched in to pay for.
Once they arrived at the California seaside, the girls jumped out of the car, running around to the trunk to prepare. They threw off their tops, revealing their vibrantly colored bathing suit tops. With ripped up jean shorts and flip-flops still on, they grabbed their tote bag and towels, making their way to the sandy shoreline.
After claiming a decent spot, the girls began scanning the beach for anyone who looked like they knew how to have a little fun. They really weren't looking for anything serious; they just wanted some excitement to kick off their summer and get Emylia into a happier state.
It turned out to be fairly easy.
Emylia wasn't anything special. She had long brunette hair that she dyed often - it was currently a deep purple - and average green eyes. Her thighs were a little too big for her liking and her stomach wasn't perfect.
These were just things she had to become comfortable with. She knew she wasn't perfect, and she used it to her advantage.
"Hey, gorgeous."
Emylia looked up. A tall boy with bright green hair stood above her. She couldn't help but to laugh.
"Me? Gorgeous? You're funny. I like you," Emylia laughed again as she sat up.
"No really, you..."
"Don't even try. Whats your name?"
"Oh, you think I'm that easy?"
Emilia stared at him with curious eyes, "You're the one who came up to me."
The boy smiled, "You were just too tempting. I couldn't resist coming to talk to you."
"So, you're not going to tell me your name? How rude," Emylia couldn't help but smile.
"I guess you'll have to guess," he smirked as he walked away.
Emylia jumped up from her spot on the sand and followed after him. "How am I supposed to figure out your name if you just leave me?"
"There are so many to guess from. You'll never get it," he said teasingly.
"Well, I have to at least try. I'm not one to give up."
Walking next to this boy on the beach, Emylia wanted nothing more than to have a good night with him. He looked like the perfect person to help her get her mind off of her troubles.
They walked in comfortable silence for a few minutes until Emylia blurted out, "Frank."
The boy burst out laughing, "Do I really look like a Frank?"
"No, I just said that because it was my first fish's name and I was hoping that he could have been reincarnated in you. Of course, you look like a Frank, dumbshit."
"Okay, okay," he complied even though he couldn't stop laughing.
"Why green?" Emylia inquired.
"Why purple?" he retaliated.
"I asked you first."
"You're a child."
"I know," she said, smiling, "Answer my question."
"Honestly? I thought it would be fun."
"Fun, huh? Sounds like a great reason," Emylia replied. She was enjoying herself for the first time in a while, and she didn't want it to stop anytime soon. "Jake?"
The boy kept walking until he looked over and saw that she was looking at him. "Oh, me?"
"Yeah, you."
"That's not my name. Good try though," he chuckled.
"My name is Emylia. Will you tell me yours now?"
"Hmmm, no, I don't think I will."
"Why won't you tell me?" she said, trying to act upset.
"It's fun to watch you try. You're actually really cute when you're flustered."
"Sure."
"I'm not lying," he stated, "I'm an honest person."
Emylia looked up at him, wondered why she was enjoying his company so much, and, in the process, almost tripped over a clump in the sand.
She stumbled slightly which caused the boy to reach out for her. His arm slipped around her waist, pulling her back into balance.
"Thank you," Emylia sputtered.
"It's no problem."
Still with his arm around her waist, he pulled her in for a hug. Emylia immediately noticed that his embrace was warm and that he smelled exactly how she imagined her dream guy would.
Once he pulled away she said, "Now you have to tell me your name. I don't just go around hugging strangers."
"It looks like you do now."
"You're really not going to tell me?"
"Not yet."
"You will eventually?"
"Possibly."
Although Emylia was frustrated, she was enjoying this. She was interested in this boy and she thought he might be interested in her, too.
"I don't know how much longer I can wait, Ryan."
"Who is Ryan?"
"It was just a guess."
"I figured so."
