A nice blow of wind comes in through the open window and cools the hot air a little bit. Just enough for me to be able to follow the calculations in my chemistry book and don't become a sweaty mess.
It's silent in the house since my parents are at work and won't be home for another 4 hours. Therefor it's kind of strange to hear your name being called from not too far away.
I look around my room. My door is still open and there is no one in the hallway and no other sound echoes through the house.
"Look out of the window!"
I know that chuckle.
I am red before I've even turned around completely and look at his smiling face.
Ashton is sitting in his window and watches me spread out on the floor with my books and papers in front of me.
"Studying again. I see... What is it this time? Maths?"
I sit up straight and put a loose strand of hair behind my ear.
"No-o. Chemistry."
My voice is quiet and I'm stunned he even heard me. Why do I have to be so shy around him?
"Chemistry? Really? Which class are you in?"
Ashton seems interested and I jump at the option to finally have something to talk about with him.
"In Mr. Kingsley's. He isn't too bad. Good to understand but a lot of work to do."
"Good to understand? Are you kidding me? I'm trying to do this summer project right now and I'm failing miserably."
"Oh..." I don't know what to say to that. My gaze wanders down to my books, wondering what might confuse him.
My heart stops for a second and I jump, when there is a light touch on my shoulder.
"Calm down, Caleigh." Ashton is laughing right next to me.
"Ho-ow did yo-ou get in here?" I'm still shocked, looking up at him with big eyes.
"Through the window. How else?" He gives me this dumbfound look, like I'm going crazy, but I'm not the crazy one creeping through somebody else's windows.
He just laughs it off and places one of his big hands on my shoulder.
"Back to chemistry. I hoped you could help me out?"
"Help you?" It comes out more like a squeal. I wish the ground would open and swallow me up. I'm so embarrassing.
"Yes, I know you are smart and I'm sure you're a great teacher too."
His smiles is directed at me and warms me from inside out, turning my cheeks a shade darker.
"I-I can try." Why can't I stop stuttering under his intense stare?
I cough to clear my throat and maybe be able to speak up a little louder. Come on Caleigh, you can do it.
"Where do you have problems understanding?"
"I don't even know... Everywhere probably."
"So... Do you wanna start at the beginning?"
He just nods while sliding his hand down my back. It causes a cold shiver to run down my spine and I shudder for a moment. I can hear him chuckling lightly next to me, while I cough to find my voice again. I push my glasses up my nose and take the first paper out, opening my chemistry book once more and begin to explain.
Talking about chemistry is so much easier than talking about me or anything else. Chemistry is a thing I know, something I'm confident in or at least as confident as I can be.
"... We have these two solutions. The first one is simply sugar and water. Which means H2O and C12H22O11. The other one is Na-"
His hand touches my thigh, resting there and sending electric shocks up my leg.
"Wait a minute, Leigh. Why is it C12 and whatever follows?"
Did he just give me a nick name? The last time somebody called me something else than Caleigh was in second grade and that was my brother.
"Hey, you alright?"
His fingers lightly touch my cheek and turn my face in his direction.
I must look like a tomato to him, I can feel the heat on my face.
"I-I'm fine tha-anks."
He pushes a brown strand of mine back behind my ear, leaving a tingly feeling on my skin.
"I hope it's okay for me to call you Leigh. I just thinks it's a cute name and it fits you quiet well."
A wink. He really just winked at me. Can someone please call an ambulance?
"I-It's fine."
Oh god, I need to focus back on chemistry or I will be a human tomato for ever.
"Back to our two solutions. It's C12H22O11 because ... "
"Leigh, can we pause for a minute? I think my brain might explode any second."
"Oh, sure... If you've got a headache I'll get you something to drink real quick."
I'm already standing up, when Ashton pulls me back down by my hand. I nearly fall right on top of him. Only in the last second can I catch myself. I'm still hovering over him, so close to him I can feel his body heat on my skin.
"I-I'm so so so-orry."
I stutter out my apology and awkwardly pull back and sit down opposite him.
He laughs softly. "Don't be sorry, silly. It wasn't your fault."
I can't look him in the eyes after this little incident. Not with my shaking hands and my burning cheeks.
"You are a great teacher, d'you know that?" Ashton looks at me standing at my window, ready to go home after a long afternoon of studying.
"Thank you." I smile shyly back up at him.
It was nice having him over, but so nerve wrecking at the same time.
"No really, thank you Leigh. I don't know what I would have done without your help."
A nice warm spreads in me and I feel grateful for his compliment.
I don't even know what's happening when Ashton suddenly leans forward and places his soft lips on my left cheek, whispering quietly.
"See you, sweetie."
Then he is gone, out of my window and back in his own room.
I hope you liked Caleigh's awkwardness and Ashton's flirty behavior. Leave us a Like or Comment to tell us what you think about the pair.
