"There's an urban legend that's been circulating for years about a taxi cab that doesn't take you where you want to go, but where you need to go. One night, you step into this cab."

"There's this legend, right," Finn starts , shoving a handful of chips into his mouth, "that my granmama told me. Apparently, it's really popular in Daysburg and it's been going around for years now."

I scrunch up my nose in disgust as he talks with his mouth full.

"Okay....." I say.

Swallowing, he continues.
"It's about this cab that doesn't take you where you wanna go, but where you need to go."

I raise an eyebrow. "So, it's Truck-kun but like without getting run over?" I ask unimpressed.

He blinks twice. "Huh? Y'know what, never mind. It's probably some weird weeb thing."

Grinning at him, I wink before taking a sip of my soda."

Groaning, he says "The point is, you're always talking about wanting to be in the right place at the right time. Maybe if you find this cab, it'll lead you there. This could be your chance."

Rolling my eyes, I turn back to the movie.

Finn and I had met in a boarding school a couple of years ago and we'd been friends ever since. Now we were in college and I had decided to come visit him in his hometown of Daysburg. I've only been here a few days but you could say the townsfolk were the superstitious kind.

The other day in my hotel room, as the room service lady was serving me, a glass cup had tipped over and broken. The lady gasped so loudly, I thought she was having a seizure. Under her breath, I had heard her continuously murmur 'salt, salt' while rummaging through the food cart. Upon finding the salt shaker, she quickly dumped the grains into her hand and threw it over her shoulder. And as if nothing happened, she went back to her business as usual.

Needless to say, I was pretty wary of the townsfolk and when in public, I tried to be very careful.

So when Finn starts saying crap like this, I've learnt to take it with a grain of superstitious salt.

Yawning, I look at the clock on the wall.
"Welp, it's getting late;" I say to Finn who was still watching me.
"I need to get back to my hotel."

"But you could stay here. You probably won't find any cabs or-" He interrupted himself by gasping loudly.
"You know what? Go." He started pulling me up and pushing me through his living room into his door way.

"Hey, no pushy." I grumbled, pulling on my shoes, "I'm going."

When I'm out of the door, he slams it shut. I scoffed with unbelief as I looked at his window where he was staring at me. He made a shooing motion with his hands and I shook my head while continuing down his driveway.

"What a friend he is." I muttered under my breath while kicking a stray pebble, "Mythical taxi cab my ass."

Headlights came up as a car rolled up beside me.

"Need a lift?" Came a voice from inside the car.

I bent to look closer into the car but it was so dark, I couldn't see the driver.

"Uhh, yeah sure." I answered while I entered the cab and he drove away.

"Kismet Hotel on the 15th Street." I gave him the address but he didn't answer."

Frowning, I look outside;
"Hey, uhh...." I started to ask worried, "Is this another route to the hotel?"

"Don't worry sir, I'll take you to your destination." The driver answered.

Even from the back, I couldn't see the driver's face so I reached up to switch on the car light.
But there was none.

"Hey, uhhh, maybe you should drop me off here." I told him, now anxious.
I reached towards the car door, but the handle wasn't there anymore. Neither was the window.

"Don't worry sir, I'll take you to your destination." The driver repeated.

I leaned back into my chair and started taking deep breaths.

'This is a dream' I told myself, 'I fell asleep at Finn's and my dreams' being fueled by that stupid legend he told me.'

Soon, we slowed to a stop and I was suddenly shot out of the car like someone shoved me.

"Pleasure doing business." I heard the driver say from my position on the ground. I looked up to him and-

My heart almost stopped when I saw a figure with no face, tipping his hat. He then sped away.

"Where the-"
Looking around, I saw that I was in some sort of clearing and I wasn't alone. There were other people around, all of them dressed differently.

A guy wearing a suit and tie noticed me and jogged over.

Scuttling back, I yelled "Don't come closer! My blood is of no value! I'm just an anime weeb who lives for his waifus!"

When he came closer, I noticed his face was smudged with dirt and his clothes were a little burnt.

"What? No, we aren't some cult, I think. We were brought here by the elevator."

I peeked at him and asked warily "So, you're not gonna feed me to some dragon god?"

He shook his head. "We don't even know why we're here. It was supposed to be a job interview for me and-"

Suddenly, he was interrupted by this loud voice which said:
"Welcome heroes!"
