Xaeren's P.O.V.
Apparently Alex and her friends made a habit out of sleeping on the beach. The animal inside of him begged to be let out, to have passion in the form of a one night stand. But the human in him was opposed to the very idea of it.
Alex was gorgeous when she slept. Her tan skin was draped with a thin gleaming sheet of sweat. Her mahogany waves were sprawled around her head. Her full lips were open as she dreamt, and her thick, black eyelashes were as lustrous as a feather duster.
I took one of the heavier blankets off of her. I lovingly stroked her face.
I heard a throat being cleared, and I was reminded that we weren’t the only people there. I had been gazing tenderly at Alex, and her friends were gazing at me inquisitively. Taylor, Lili, and Elizabeth were staring at me open mouthed as I moved away from Alex.
“I call planning their wedding!!” Yelled Taylor, raising her hands quickly into the air, as if the privilege was tangible and she was the first to claim it.
Elizabeth and Lili sighed in disappointment.
“Fine, but I get to be the maid of honor!” Elizabeth shrieked manically, staring around wide-eyed.
“Ugh. What can I do?” asked Lili. They went deep into a discussion, divvying up jobs and roles. They already knew which dresses they were going to pick, where the reception would be held, and now they were deciding which minister they would use. I just sat there staring at them. Is this what women talk about all of the time? I asked myself.
As the discussion wound down, Alex’s mom walked out to wake them up. She eyed me, looking me up and down, without the pretense of being polite. At least I now knew where Alex had gotten her direct manner from.
“You must be Xaeren. She said something about you being infuriatingly gorgeous if I remember correctly, and I’m not that old. Alex has talked quiet vehemently about you for the past few days. I see what has gotten her panties in a bunch. My name is Dorita, but everyone calls me Dori or Mom.” Alex’s mom had a very cozy, hearth type feeling about her.
“You any good with electrical units?” She asked as if a sudden idea had taken root in her mind.
“Yes, ma’am. How can I help you?” I asked, trying to be polite and curious.
“Well our alarm system won’t go off, and its driven these girls out here in the heat. Could you help me fix it?” She asked, politely.
“Of course, ma’am. Just point me in the direction of the main alarm. Just let me carry Alex in and set her down so she will be more comfortable.” I said, picking her up as I spoke.
Alex’s mom walked ahead of me into the house. As soon as I cleared the first step onto the porch, I could tell why they had chosen the beach over this nerve wracking sound. It sent my mind into a flurry, scattering my thoughts.
I walked into the living room, and set Alex down on the couch. The air conditioning was blasting at full capacity, so I draped a decorative throw blanket over her. Now to go fix the loudest fire alarm in the world.
