The Kernel

(3rd POV)

Lungmen, what a beautiful and bustling city filled to the brim with opportunities. The night lights are one of the beauties of lungmen, tall high-rises, neon sign lights, and street lights scattered throughout the city, and yet our focus is on another entirely different thing in an alleyway.

"Come on Texas *huff**huff* we're kinda close... I think" says a redheaded sankta to a black haired Lupo while the both of them breaths heavily as they were running away from something.

"*Huff* thanks for the encouragement" retorted sarcastically by the Lupo now named Texas as they kept running in an alleyway until they reached a dumpster and hid behind it.

The both of them rest behind the dumpster while warily looking around, as if searching for something or someone they also spot a door at the end of the alleyway "why did you accept the deal" Texas asked the sankta while leaning on the alleyway.

"I haven't signed the contract ok and it also gave good money you know, plus they'll give me a lifetime supply of the food of the gods" the sankta smiles while imagining eating it "hehehe" she laughs while drooling.

"Exusiai, your drooling" Texas exclaim but got ignored, she sigh and rub the drool with the now named Exusiai's collar.

Their rest was interrupted by the sound off footsteps multiple of them slowly getting closer to their hiding place, this got both girls to be alarmed and ready to run.

But as they turn and ran to the door, ready to enact forced entry to an unfortunate families house they discovered a horrifying truth "w-WHY IS THERE A PHOTO REALISTIC DOOR PAINTED HERE?!!*ARGH*" Screams Exusiai as she hits the doo- wall and releases a dramatic pained scream while Texas just stares at the door and looks like she's done with everything.

Then the both of them freeze up as they remembered that they were being chased and slowly turn their heads back.

There in the middle of the alleyway was a group of people being led by an old man wearing a dashing white suit and a 'T' shaped black bow tie while holding a cane.

Texas's nose twitch, she didn't remember smelling this when they first met but now that her senses are at full alert she can smell it, an emanating smell from the old man, she doesn't exactly know what the specific names are but she can oddly distinguish 11 different herbs and... Spices? Coming from the man.

"*Chuckles* the both of you have gone far enough" said the old man as he slowly approaches the girls, this got the girls to a defensive stance "s-stop! I-i know gun-fu!" Warned Exusiai while Texas stayed silent eyeing the man to make a move.

The man waves off the threat "don't worry you girls, it's not like we're going to hurt you or anything *chuckles*" he chuckled full of warm which weirdly calm the both of them down 'wait no!' Texas thought to herself while shaking her head left and right.

"Hey Exu-" when she looked at Exusiai she's relaxed as if all the trouble in the world is just her shower imagination going wild and not a real one, and this got Texas panicked.

"Hey" Texas gently nudge her and looked at her "snap out of it" this got Exusiai to react "huh wha- snap out of whaa?" She said suspiciously very relaxed and before Texas can respond she felt someone Infront her and she whipped her head forward at record time but was met by the old man Infront of her.

"Get bac-" before she can finish her sentence she was hit by something dusty on her face that burns her eyes and nose making her eyes watery and made her cough uncontrollably "what *cough**cough* what did you do?" She asked with difficulty and the man just smiled "it's a company secret".

Despite that she can clearly smell that 11 herbs and spices more clearly now 'i guess that's what he throw me wit-' suddenly she starts to relax "what was I panicking about?" She asked to no one in particular.

"Nothing my dear" the old man said joyfully while handing her a wet tissue to wipe her face off of the spice and herbs "anyways girls, we were just talking about your contract don't you remember?" The old man said while motioning to the people behind him for the contract.

"Oh yeah I remember (she didn't)" as she said this she is handed a contract by the old man and was gestured to sign it, "uuuhhhh, I see apple pie here so it's obviously not something bad!" Exclaimed Exusiai as she sign the contract while Texas is just staring while smiling "congrats" Texas told Exusiai "thanks!, From what the contract said we'll be getting a lifetime supply of apple pie, hehehehe" Exusiai said excitedly and laughing while drooling.

But then something suddenly snapped inside of Texas, as if she remembered something and all senses inside of her came back "huh" she just blankly stares "wait! The old-" when she glanced at the alleyway there was nothing except the dumpster that she hid behind "-man" Texas paused because of this "where did he go?" She asked Exusiai who seems to have comeback to her senses as well.

"Huh, ah ehhhh I don't know" Exu shrugged "all I remembered was that I sign some sort of con.... Tract" Exusiai slowly stopped talking and goes wide eyed "oh shit"
