"What the fuck!" she thinks, staring at the cast list and grimacing.

The chances were never zero as they’ve been in the same drama class for years. But why it have to be him and that is for the prince? What was the selecting committee thinking?... He might look like a prince but he would be better fit for the evil stepmother, according to Jennie.

Yes, she knew that he was auditioning for the lead male role.

Yes, she knew that he would probably get it.

And yet she still went and auditioned for the main female role, hoping, praying that by some miracle she would get the lead and someone else could play her Prince Charming. But you never get what you want. Isn't it?

Kim Taehyung has been a thorn in her side for as long as she can remember.

Even since kindergarten, he’s always been doing his best to one up her in everything. Academics, friendships, physical tests. She’s not sure why he’s been so hell bent on following her around and trying to be better than her for so long, but some of her earliest memories are of him and her battling it out to the death in math and physics tests.

Though she may never admit it to anyone, especially him, he’s always made her better, though she finds his methods of pushing her to be a little too much.

And though he made her better, over time it was tiring. Constantly bickering with someone, constantly having to be on the top of her game.

When she joined drama club in seventh grade, she thought that maybe she could escape him there. That it would be a place free of his constant need to win. And maybe she could be free of hers too.

She was wrong.

To this day he swears he had no idea she was joining the class when he signed up for it all those years ago, that all he had wanted was to explore some different field other than studies.

Jennie doesn’t buy that.

But does it matter now?

Now, she is in her sophomore year of highschool, finally having the opportunity to play her dream role and perform her heart out.

But she is stuck being casted as the main love interest to one Kim Taehyung in their high school’s rendition of Cindrella.

In the back of her mind she had an urge of bashing his head against the wall next time she sees him.

“Hey Nini. ”

Jennie’s shoulders tense as soon as she hears that familiar, condescending nickname from behind her.

Okay, she wasn’t really prepared to murder him in front of all the students that were passing through the hallway right now, so perhaps she should save that wall bashing for when he walks her home after school.

(Don’t ask about that, she also has no idea why he insists on walking with her.)

“I presume you saw the cast list?” He asks, and of course she saw the cast list, she’s standing right in front of it and-

She can hear him smirk.

“You got the main role. Congratulations.”

She can feel his presence near as he begins to step closer, his voice now just behind her as he says,

“I think you’ll do great.”

Kim Jennie may be a nice person. She is sweet, and caring.

She may be kind to everyone and everything.

But she knows that he only auditioned for Prince Charming so that he could ruin her experience on stage as her dream role, because that’s what he does. That's what he's been doing for years now.

But she is not going to let that happen this time.

So, taking a deep breath and squaring her shoulders, Jennie turns to face him, expression stern as she looks up at his stupid smirk.

“I know I’ll do great,” she begins, crossing her arms and glaring at him. Her inside was dying to break the eye contact but she didn't, eye contact is the key to show confidence.

Taehyung snorts. “I love the confidence, it looks good on you, Nini.”

“I told you not to call me that.”

“I don’t care what you want me to do.”

His stupidly smug expression falling, Taehyung scowls at her as he adjusts his bag and looks at the casting list and then back at her.

“Listen here, Jennie.” He says, the sudden change in demeanor slightly shocking her as his eyes stare right into her soul. “I don’t care if I’m not the person you want to be playing this role with. I don’t care what you want. You better do your damn best when I’m on stage with you, got it?”

His crimson eyes are burning with that passion that she’s seen in his eyes a million times before, and yet somehow she feels intimidated.

She gulps.

This wasn’t the speech she was expecting from him.

She expected something more like ‘I’m gonna be the star of this damn show!’ Or ‘How does it feel to know that you’ll be kissing your fated rival in front of an entire audience, huh round Face?’ Or something stupidly smug like that.

But that wasn’t it.

He had simply told her to do her best.

To go all out.

It’s not exactly out of character for him to ask this of her, in almost every single thing he’s ever challenged her to, he’s expected the best from her, but right now he looks like he needs to make sure that she knows that he wants the best from her.

That he isn’t just doing this to piss her off.

She blinks once, twice, three times before she finally finds it in herself to snap back to reality.

His face is serious, so serious as he looks at her.

He’s serious about this. About this role.

Jennie doesn’t know why her heart is racing, or why it suddenly feels very hot in this particular spot in the hallway, but she does know that this is good.

He’s not messing around.

Neither is she.

This is good.

This better be good,

For the Drama.

For her Dream.

Nothing more than that. Not even the kiss they'll share on stage.
