I'd like to make a small interlude to explicitly thank and state that a bad experience with one teacher should not detract from the amazing work that the majority do. I have had the luck and privilege of coming across some amazing teachers growing up.
At the same time that I was getting advice to give up from my Drama teacher, my English teacher Mr Evans and our head of English and Media Studies Miss Hoffman noticed and encouraged my love for writing and media studies. They fought to try to get me to take the higher-grade exam rather than the foundation paper (it was too late, but I'll never forget that they tried anyway). This encouragement and support no doubt sowed the seeds to my Journalism degree and ultimately the career that I have chosen today.
My form tutor Mr Willoughby dutifully looked after us all and gave us good advice – God knows some of us needed it at the time.
This continued throughout all my years in the school system too, so many fantastic teachers that all supported and encouraged us. Teachers that gave up their own time, read through university statements and believed in their students - Miss Chamberlain, Ms Sykes, Miss Wadham, Mr Driscoll – really just too many to name.
Thank you. I don't know how you do what you do, but I'm sure glad you do it.
I hope Dear Child that growing up you may encounter many more fantastic teachers that will build and encourage your interests too.
