You grinned happily, jumping a bit on your heels as you walked through the busy streets of Trost. You sort of loved the homey feeling of the city. The carts, children, the market. It was so comforting.. in a grim way.
You smiled, clapping your hands a bit, "It's been so long since we've been here.. man, do I miss this."
Eren scoffed, "You're so dramatic. You were basically shaking earlier." He said, punching your upper arm playfully. "We literally had to drag you into the streets."
You rolled your eyes, crossing your arms in dejection, "I don't recall."
The graduated class was in the district of Trost once more, finally being allowed to do duties inside the walls. It was a way to keep everyone busy before officially choosing their desired placement.
Besides, it's good training.
In a bit you were supposed to be manning to the cannon's beside Eren and a few of your friends. But, thankfully, they had allowed some stations to be released to bid a farewell to the the Scouting Regiment that was heading out.
In fact, the sounds of horse hooves clacking on the ground turned everyone's attention towards the sound. They had a clean path throughout the city, seeing that the Garrison, pretty forcibly, pushed people to the side to make way.
"Here they come!" Someone among the crowd shouted excitedly.
"The Scouts!" Eren beamed, a large grin plastered on his face as he dragged Armin and you by the arm through the crowd. Mikasa just followed quickly from behind.
You groaned as he pushed through the crowd to get as close as he could. As soon as he stopped, you came closer to Armin for some type of comfort after your nerves spiked from the surrounding crowd. "Eren needs to stop doing that before someone gets angry."
Armin sighed and nodded in agreement, "You saw all those annoyed faces too?" You hummed as he let his face soften, watching Eren's smiling face intently, "But.. he's happy. I don't think we should bother him much."
"Yeah. He's been doing better."
"All of you have." Mikasa's soft voice just barely met your ears. You smiled and looked over your shoulder at her, ultimately making her hide her face in her scarf.
You giggled at her shyness as Armin turned towards her as well, "You have too, Mikasa."
She returned the two of your smiles with her own, unique, nervous one. You always found it funny, and sad, how she didn't really know how to really smile. But, it was something. So, you really couldn't complain.
Before she could say anything further, Eren shook Armin by the shoulders suddenly. You laughed at the high-pitched sound that cane from the startled blond's mouth as Eren pointed towards the street. "Guys! Shut up!" He motioned up towards the incoming Scouts, "They're coming!"
Staring at the passing soldiers on their horses, you couldn't help but sigh shakily. You knew they would come back in a horrible condition. Everyone knew.
But.. somehow, everyone still cheered on for them. They still held hope in the regiment. And that's something. It's better to go into a fight motivated than scared. These cheers.. they're what they fight for and with.
So you went along with it.
You smiled and shouted, clapping in celebration alongside the crowd, pumping your fists in the air as the commander of the entire regiment passed..
