INTERVIEW WITH THE WRITER:

What sparked the inspiration to write your duology Queen of Piracy?

It was a trip to Saint Augustine, Florida. Visiting the Pirate & Treasure Museum was what inspired me the most because of all the interesting objects they have there.

When you started the story, did you already know it would be a duology?

No, I didn't. I decided to write the duology for two reasons. First, I wasn't satisfied with the ending of book 1. Second, I wasn't done with that cast of characters because I had a lot of fun creating their story. Also, I am considering writing a third book.

How do you keep track of all the details in your duology?

I create roadmaps and put a small summary on top of each chapter to remember what I'm supposed to write.

What has been the most challenging part to write in your duology (so far)?

The most challenging part was deciding what to do in filler chapters. It isn't easy to make sure those chapters end in cliffhangers and remain interesting.

Do real-life people, places, or incidents inspire your writing?

Yes, certain events in my life, places I have visited, and people I admire were an inspiration. For example, Enrique Iglesias inspired me to create Miguel, an important character in the duology.

Do you have any advice for your fellow/new series or duology writers?

I would advise them to make sure they balance emotion and reason when writing. If you only follow reason, the story ends up boring. If you let emotions take over, the plot can get chaotic quickly.
