(narrator pov)
'she's... a character.' issac thought to himself as he a followed the strange girl up a slight hill. her golden blonde hair blowed ever so slightly behind her in the morning breeze. she was talking about when the island was founded and the best coasts for surfing or something but Issac wasn't paying too much attention.
"so.. yeah!" she stopped walking to face him. Isaac, too embarrassed to admit he had been paying no attention, smiled slightly and nodded. "I'm Aelia, by the way." She said.
"Issac." He responded, colder than he meant to. Aelia inspected him for a moment before beginning to walk again. Issac could see the Charles Drive street sign up ahead and was a little nervous to see where he would be spending his summer. he was super nervous to have to navigate this island all by himself and he really was grateful for Aelias help, but he couldn't really bring himself to tell her that. He wasn't necessarily intimidated by her but she did seem way out of his league. She was dressed in denim shorts and a tank top with layered necklaces and bracelets. She had already been greeted by multiple people on their way up the hill so she was obviously popular, and Issac knew nothing about the island and she obviously did.
When they arrived at the top of the hill, Aelia turned around once more.
"here we are!" she smiled. Issac looked around. it hasn't felt like they'd gone up a super steep hill, but he could see almost the entire island. the light hitting the ocean was honestly.. ethereal. "beautiful, isn't it? i love it here but rarely come up." Aelia could talk forever which was good, because Issac was rather quiet.
"How come?" he asked. he was quiet but did enjoy Aelias presence.
"Like I said. Charles Drive is for the rich. And i am not." she chuckled. "Well, i should get going. If you ever get lost just look for the diner. I'll help you out." With that and a small smile, she began her trek back down the hill. Issac wanted to call out and thank her but he didn't. instead, he turned toward the large houses on Charles Drive. at the very end of the drive sat the biggest house. he knew that it must've been the house his father had bought, and sure enough, it was.
'always a showman.' he thought as he walked down the block and unlocked the front door.
it was a beautiful house. very roomy, with tons of natural light, a beautiful view of the ocean plus a giant tv and no parents. it was everything Issac could dream of. his father was sending someone with his luggage later in the day so Issac had no unpacking to do. everything was perfect. so why did he feel so bad?
