Breath Of Death

2023.

2023. The year my whole world was destroyed. The year everyone's world burned in flames and half of the population went with it. 14 year old me knew nothing of what the next 5 years were going to bring me. Or shall I say take from me.
In 2020, a genetic mutation spread out in the City's Capital in Tokyo from an explosion within the world's largest nuclear power plant. The government of Japan attempted to control to situation by evacuating residents closest to the explosion. By doing so, thousands of people fled not knowing they were already contaminated.
Those closest to the explosion were infected and anyone they came into contact with became contaminated as well. The scary part was that no one could see the effects of the radioactivity until it was too late. People began to have burns on their bodies and their hair would fall out and it would eventually lead to death.
The event was broadcasted on the news in the US and everyone just thought it was just another bad thing that happened in the world. What people didn't know was that back where it all started, a woman gave birth to a child who was contaminated. Later after that, she began to lose her mind and quickly became ill. Her skin started to peel and her eyes started to fog but no one expected what she had done the next day.
A doctor came to examine her but was torn to shreds by her rabid behavior. The doctor involved died within those short few moments and the woman ran freely in the hospital. She had killed 31 people before she was shot down by a security officer. Slowly each victim grew to have the same behavior and began to attack others as well. The government became involved and isolated every single one of those victims into a laboratory where they were tested.
Little did the government know that every person that was evacuated from the explosion had the same symptoms as the woman who murdered all of those people. The government first decided to shut down all transportation outside of the country, then tried to quarantine everyone in Tokyo by making them stay at home and to wear masks out in public. Since the radiation on peoples bodies were invisible, people were tested with radiation detectors when entering shared public areas.
It was confirmed in a lab that the first woman to experience the murderous behavior had radiation levels to the highest extent a human body could take. It was like she had cancer but it evolved into something more toxic. The radioactivity had broken up her DNA and somehow mutated into new DNA that completely changed her mental and physical state. It had also reached her brain which made her lose functioning but since new DNA was created, it kept her brain alive. By the time she had given birth, she had no conscience.
Because people from Tokyo had traveled to other parts of Japan, more and more people became contaminated. More deformities started to arise and more cases of zombie-like behavior came with them.
Three years later, the United Sates Department of Homeland Security (DHS) broadcasted across all social media outlets that they were going to close down the boarders to keep any immigrants from coming into the country. But by the time that happened, some people that had to be evacuated from the explosion had already traveled into the US.
The US government failed greatly in trying to control the issue and the longer people who were infected stayed, the more their DNA changed. The first person to be attacked in the US was a family member of someone who flew in from Tokyo. The virus quickly spread throughout other countries prior and eventually spread through ours. The government tried to control the issue.
The world was in a state of panic and the US Military sent out their soldiers to every state to try and capture those who tested positive for radioactivity. Word got out that congress sent the military to kill those infected including children and animals. When people found out, they rebelled against the government and a war began between them. But the government never succeeded as soldiers in the military contracted the virus through being bitten by infected people who found themselves alongside the rioters. The government's last option was to send the Air Force to air strike places all throughout the country that had the most infected.
Eventually half of the world's population was infected by this mutation. There was no more government, no more laws and no more civilization. Chaos broke out and people had to do whatever they needed to in order to survive.
The day chaos broke out in my life was on September 18th,2023.
