Your first instinct was to deny it. "It's not what it looks like."

He scoffed harshly. "Do I look like an idiot? There's no explaining your way out of this one. You knew better than this, y/n!"

You sat down and wrung your hands as bile rose in your throat. The very thing you were afraid of happening has become a reality and it became too difficult to breath. "Was does this mean for me?"

He paused, silent for a few seconds. "It means you're on an indefinite suspension while we figure things out. Turn in your ID badge to the guard at the front door."

You got up but before you opened the door you faced him. "Who sent you that?"

"Does it matter?"

Did it? Sooner or after it would've gotten out so what difference would it make knowing who sent that? "No."

You left his office, feeling dejected and grabbed your bag, and headed downstairs. You pulled your work ID from your pocket and handed it to the guard you saw every morning, who gave you a look filled with pity.

You were out on the sidewalk waiting for a taxi when you saw h/n running up to you through the window. You turned away, not wanting to do this right now.

"Y/N!" He pulled you into a hug and it temporarily brought you to a safe space, away from all the looks and whispers.

His hand rubbed your back. "I'm sorry."

"I'm sorry too."

"On the bright side, isn't this a good thing? We're out in the open."

That was totally the wrong thing to say. You pulled away from him. "Excuse me? My career blowing up is a good thing?"

"Well, no. I didn't mean it like that but I'm sure you could find something that you actually enjoy. You didn't want to be my assistant forever did you?"

You rubbed your forehead in frustration. "You gotta be fucking kidding me. Do you not understand what happened? I'm suspended. News of this has probably travelled all over the city and no other company will hire me because they're all gonna think I'll sleep with the boss meanwhile you get to show up to work like nothing happened."

"And where did this whole me working for you isn't a career come from?"

"You're taking this the wrong way, that's not what I meant."

"But you said it. See this is what happens, the stupid employee with so much more to lose falls for the boss and when shit hits the fan, they're the only one who has to pay the price."

His jaw locked. "That's not true."

"Isn't it? Because I'm the only one standing out here suspended."

"I'll fix that."

"No, you don't get it! I don't have that luxury. I'm nothing. I'm replaceable."

"Don't say that. I know you're just emotional right now —"

"Don't even go there. I wish you could've seen the way people were looking at me. Their looks, filled with disappointment or disgust, cut right through me. I'm not the girl who gets things done or makes sure she helps everyone with their tasks, I've been reduced to the girl who fucks her way to the top. I can't....do this anymore."

You walked away, not looking back and continued your pace until you were in front of your building. You flew through your front door straight into your bedroom and dove underneath the covers before you finally let the tears go. You knew it. You knew things would end this way yet you still went for it. You followed your heart like everyone always says and look where it got you - basically fired.
