"Just so we know he won't be playing favourites," the HR rep said as he licked grease from his sandwich off his fingers.

You grimaced as you replied. "He never has."

He nodded and took a bite. "Clearly he has if you chose you," he said with his mouth full. "It's just for the comfort of the other employees. They shouldn't have to feel like they have to walk on eggshells around you in case you report everything they do back to him and blah blah blah."

You leaned back and contemplated his words. You knew that favouritism would never be an issue with h/n as he took his work seriously but you could also see where everyone else was coming from and nobody really liked anyone who was buddy buddy with the guy who signed their pay checks.

"So the solution is to switch me to a sister company?"

He took another bite. "Yep. You're all set to work under the chief financial officer there starting tomorrow and y/n?"

"Yeah?" You replied.

"Don't sleep with this one."

You wanted to say more but the way he was downing that sandwich was making you nauseous so you said your goodbye and left his office. Ever since you read that email about you being transferred, you've been stressed. You loved your job here and it would be a hard adjustment but at least it was better than being fired right? Maybe you should ask h/n to enact his CEO powers to keep you here but that would be unethical and would need approval from the board of directors who had no real reason to keep you here.

And his words about not sleeping with the CFO? It was tame compared to what you've heard. So far, one guy asked you if you liked accountants too and suggestively wiggled his brows and some lady muttered angrily how it was women like you that were ruining all the work women have had to do to be respected in the workplace.

They weren't wrong but it felt unfair to have to deal with this. You told h/n that this would happen and just like a playbook, each scene unfolded the way you predicted it. You were more than the girl who had somehow landed the CEO. You were damn good at your job but fuck if that mattered.

The Next Day

A new building. A new office. A new start. The new job jitters caused you to shiver as you followed another assistant to your desk. They didn't really say anything but by the disapproving look in their eyes, you knew they knew. And here you were thinking news wouldn't travel quite so far. How naive.

You smiled as she walked away, offering you no instructions. You had just reluctantly set your stuff on your desk that was positioned right outside the door of the CFO when you heard someone clap.

"Y/N! It has not been long."

You looked at the source of the clap, surprised when his cousin, dressed in a navy blue suit, was stood there, slowly clapping. You felt yourself smile at the genuine warmth on his face.

"Isn't this an interesting turn of events?"

"It's nice to see you sans hickey," he said as he gestured to the area of your neck.

You felt your face grow hot at the mention of your fiancé's ludicrous behaviour at brunch. "You in need of an assistant that was shunned from her whole position because of sexist views?" You said as you held out your hands like you were at a bazaar showing off something of interest.
