Chapter 1
The constant noise of the professor and my peers were mind-numbing, so much repetitious judicial knowledge crowded my brain.
"For today's homework, make sure to complete all questions between pages 411 and 423. All this will be included in the end of year exam so make sure you study it tonight. I expect nothing less."
I scooped up my books and headed straight for the door, eager to escape that monotonous class.
"Hey, have you heard? Vilo from class 12-A received a vision yesterday!"
"Wow really? Lucky them. I wish I had a vision to improve my sword skills, especially to impress my crush, Clara."
I practically heard this conversation a million times now, what's so special about a vision? To me, it's just a small trinket enabling you to use elemental powers, a mere tool for distraction. If I'd have to guess, these imbeciles would use those gifts from the gods as a way to impress higher-ups to get into exclusive roles to serve Fontaine. Or perhaps something more fitting for these teenage buffoons... Impressing their beloved crushes. Fellow students were in groups either discussing their homework or the possibility of receiving a vision, I rolled my eyes. The exit was close by, 'Great, the sooner I get my homework done the better.' Suddenly I felt a shiver run down my spine, I could sense the presence of someone lurking. Someone who was strong enough to receive a vision. 'Was someone following me?' I immediately summoned my Black Tassel, ready to attack my unknown stalker.
!!!
"Oww! That hurt! What'd you do that for Zepherlyn?"
It was... Cheryle??
"Oh, sorry Cherlye. I simply mistook you for a lowlife stalker, no hard feelings... Right?" I tried to smile, pretending I wasn't embarrassed at all. I then turned around and sighed in relief, covering up my complete shame.
Cheryle's face looked puzzled, but then grinned and started to laugh. "Aww Zepherlyn, same cautious self as ever! That's why you're my bestie!" She poked her tongue out and made a cute little smile. Despite my cold exterior, Cheryle is the only person able to put a rare, genuine smile on my face. Sometimes.
"Well, I got to go now Zepherlyn. My performance practice starts in 1 hour, and I want to make sure I'm in tip top shape!"
She then ran away, before turning back and giving me a wave goodbye. I waved back. My happy smile then immediately drooped to a frown. My smile felt fake the entire time I talked to Cheryle, aside from my genuine smile that Cheryle caused. I was so cheerful and happy as a kid, what happened to me now? At 17, my emotions did not agree with my body. I felt terrible, having to even fake a smile to my best friend. I shook my head. No... All this doesn't matter now. I need to focus on my studies to gain the approval of my superiors, no nonsense emotions will distract me from that goal.
