That evening, Indy and his friends were at the Place where "The Old Man" lived. Someone prepared some Dates to eat, but then the Monkey Man came in and poured something on them all before making his getaway.
Indy: I can't figure out how Belloq did it. Where'd he get a copy of the Headpiece?
Sonic: Yeah... At least there are no pictures... or should I say duplicates of it anywhere.
Indy: Maybe so.
Sallah: I tell you only what I saw with my own eyes: A headpiece like that one... except round the edges, which were rougher. In the Center, the Frenchman had embedded a crystal, and... surrounding the Crystal, on one side, there were raised markings, just like this one.
Indy: (Grabs a Date) They made their Calculations in the Map room?
Sallah: Yes, this morning. Belloq, and the German boss, Dietrich.
Tails: I'll bet he's bad news.
Sallah: When they came out of the map room, they gave us a new spot in which to dig... out away from the camp.
Indy: The Well of Souls, huh?
Old Man: Come, Come, look. Look here... look. Sit down. Come around and have a seat.
Indy: What is it?
Old Man: This is a warning... not to disturb the Ark of the Covenant.
Indy: What about the height of the Staff, though? Did Belloq get it off of here?
Old Man: Yes, it is Here.
Tails: What does that Writing say?
Old: This writing was the old way, which means six kadam high...
Indy: About 72 Inches.
Old Man: Wait! "And take back one kadam to honor the Hebrew God whose Ark this is."
(They get up)
Tails: Hang on... 6 times 12... 72... minus 12... 60!
Indy: (to Sallah) You said their headpiece only had markings on one side. Are you absolutely sure?
(Sallah Nods)
Sonic: So that would mean...
Indy: Belloq's Staff is too long.
All: They're Digging in the Wrong Place!
Sallah: (laughs) 🎵 I am the Monarch of the sea... I am the ruler of the... 🎵
(Indy throws the date in the air and prepared to eat it but Sallah caught it)
Amy: Why'd you do that?
(Sallah points to the Monkey, who lay on the floor, dead)
Sonic: Oh...
Sallah: Bad Dates.
Sonic: Phew... glad we didn't have any.
Amy: Me neither.
THE WELL OF SOULS
The Next Morning, Indy and Sallah went to the Excavation site.
Belloq: I told you not to be premature in your communique to Berlin. Archeology is not an exact science. It does not deal with Time schedules, you know!
Dietrich: The fuhrer is not a patient man! He demands constant reports, and he expects progress! You lead me to believe...
Belloq: Nothing! I made no promises! I only said it looked very favorable! Besides, with the information in our possession, my calculations were correct!
