Harry named his kids after his family and friends.

James Sirius Potter - his father and his godfather

Albus Severus Potter - his headmaster and the bravest man he knew

Lily Luna Potter - his mother and his... friend?

But Harry and Luna weren't all that close really. In fact, she only meets him in the fifth book.

And all the other people he names his and Ginny's kid after are, well, dead. So did Luna Lovegood die in the Battle of Hogwarts?!

This theory actually holds up pretty well. The fact that he named his kid after her could have been a kind of tribute to the girl who had died? Also, she is not mentioned anywhere in the 19 years later chapter of the story, and assuming Harry named Luna, this actually makes sense.

However there are actually quite a few flaws in this. Let's start with the books. It says that Luna is a year younger than Harry. Since he missed the Sorting that year, he wouldn't know whether it was telling the truth. So technically, in the fifth book, she would be in her fourth year. As you know, Ginny is in the same year as Luna. So, Luna and Ginny might have been friends, maybe even such good friends that Ginny named her only daughter after her?
Also, as it is not in the movie, a few people forget the small scene after the Battle of Hogwarts, where Luna distracts the crowd so Harry can sneak away. How could she do this if she was dead, unless she had already become a ghost?

Also, to top it all off, J. K. Rowling said that Luna married Rolf Scamander, the grandson of Newt Scamander. The reason she might not of been in the 19 years later part was because she might not of had a kid, and so had no need to go to Platform 9 3/4.

But the reason Harry and Ginny named their kid after Luna Lovegood, until Rowling tells us, will remain a mystery...
