Ali broke the hug. Mariam looked at him, her ear laced with fear as her heart dropped. He picked her up in his arms and walked to her chamber.

Mariam sighed. She was about to say something but stopped.
Ali leaned forward and and placed his lips on her forehead. Mariam's breath hitched. She held his upper arm. He pulled away and looked at her. She opened her eyes and gazed at him. She held his face with her palms and stroked his cheek with her thumb. He held his breath and closed his eyes in anticipation as tears clouded their eyes.
They looked into each other,s eyes. Mariam remembered that today was the day of engagement. She left his face and wiped a lone tear that escaped her eye.
They continued gazing into each other's eyes. Their eyes were filled with pain and longing. They stayed silent but their eyes shouted volumes, laced with pain, longing and clouded with tears of helplessness.
Ali took a deep breath and stood up and turned. Now his back was facing her.

Ali said, his voice thick and hoarse as tried to control his tears.

Mariam stood up and was about to say something but Ali rushed out from the chamber.
Mariam dropped herself on her knees breaking down completely. The tears which she was controlling since a long time finally flowed down her beautiful hazel brown orbs.
Aaj pata chala ke pyaar ka dusra naam dard kyun hai.
Mariam whispered brokenly.
