After yesterday's incident you'd decided to cook more often, and you'd make sure Jack watched. He never said anything to you. He thought it was funny how you'd react when something got a little extra crisp or burnt. Not that Jack could really tell, but you'd always have him throw it away so sometimes he'd be able to feel the difference.
You would talk about random things while you cooked, or suggested Jack to play a song. He complained about not being a DJ and you'd always tell him you don't have a phone. He'd be quiet and play your song, and then you'd present the meal you made. Jack still never ate any of it, only taking small bites of of various foods.
Like steak that's just a little too bloody for your taste.
"Ya know, I thought you said you were more like a zombie, but you're giving off major vampire vibes." You said in between bites of your dinner.
"Can a vampire be turned into a zombie?" Jack asked leaning back in his chair. Normally he kept his hoodie up and his mask on, now he leaves his hoodie down and his mask on. You don't mind it much but it gives you a chance to point out how unkempt it is.
"I dunno I'm neither of those things." Jack only shrugged at your response. He talked a little more with you after the day you went shopping together, he's still in his room a lot and you still don't know a lot about him, but he's willing to keep a conversation with you.
Today was Saturday, nothing ever really happened on a Saturday for you. So you and Jack sat on the couch and decided to play 21 questions.
"Favorite color?"
"Hm, I'd have to say (favorite color). Is yours blue?"
"No actually its green." The sarcasm forever present in Jack's speech. You flipped him off and waited for him to ask his next question. "Funniest experience?"
You chuckled to yourself." Well there was one time my friend Toby and I went to a park and he broke him arm falling off the monkey bars." You laughed at the memory but Jack didn't seem as a amused as you. "Ok, I know it SOUNDS bad but if you were there you'd understand."
"Fair."
"Favorite childhood memory?"
"I cant remember my childhood." His response took a moment to settle in the air. A little awkward you'd admit. "Who's Toby?"
" Toby was one of my best friends when I was little, but sadly he died in a house fire." You trailed off looking at your hands for a moment, now the room felt really awkward. You cleared your throat. "Are you ever going to tell me what kind of monster you are? I was told you were the only person who could 'contain me'."
You could hear Jack suck in a deep inhale from behind his mask. "It's complicated."
"I'm not your Facebook relationship status," you said blankly." I wanna know more about the person I'm living with, since you don't seem to act like much of a monster."Jack was silent and then so were you. "Were you human before? Like me?" Jack didn't even face you anymore he just stared down the hall behind you.
"I don't remember. " Jack finally said after the silence. "I cant remember much before a few years ago." He pushed himself off the couch and walked down the hall to his room before shutting the door. Alone in the living room, you huffed and stood up to go to your room.
You laid down and stared at your ceiling. It had been a long time since Toby died, but it didn't help to think about the last time the two of you saw each other. You tried pushing it to the back of your mind and turned onto your side to look at the wall. You'd lost a lot of things in life, and now you'd left your actual life.
