I had been leaning against the wall on the perimeter of the school grounds. My school bag in my left hand, and my book in the other. I look up, and see Daniel parking his bike outside the school, eyeing the Cobra Kai gang. I smiled and lowered my book with my thumb still on the spot I was on. Daniel had been wearing a pair of sunglasses, but I decided not to question it. He turned back around, grinned and waved at me. I waved back as he walked over to me.
"Hey, whatcha readin?" He said pointing at my book.
"Oh uhhh.." I looked down and checked the cover. "The Outsiders." I looked back up at him.
"Reallyy.." he said, squinting at the cover. "Who's the best character?" He asked, placing a hand on his hips.
"Probably Johnny." I responded, lifting the book up again.
"Seriously? A character named Johnny is your is favorite?" He smirked sarcastically.
"Yes, seriously. You should give it a read. I think you'd like it." I shut my book and lifted up my bag to put it away.
"Yeah, sure." He rolled his eyes and helped me put my book away. I swung my backpack straps over my shoulders and we walked in together. The school day was coming to an end, and out of boredom I grabbed a soccer ball that was being used for the soccer tryouts Danny had been participating in. I was practicing the juggling trick the he had showed me last night at the party. I caught the ball in the air after bouncing it on my knee. I noticed that Freddy and his friends were teasing him about what had happened last night. I walked over to Danny.
"Hey, think fast!" I tossed the ball at him. His reflexes kicked in and he caught the ball immediately. That wasn't until I noticed the bruise on his right eye. "Woah, are you alright with your.." I inhaled sharply, pointing to my eye.
"Oh, don't worry it looks worse than it feels, believe me" He remarked, messing with the ball.
"Sorry if the medicine isn't working as well as it should've," I furrowed my brows, and observed the bruise.
"Oh no, trust me, I'm sure if I hadn't taken it I'd be in a lotta pain." He cracked a half smile still toying with the soccer ball.
"Yeah, I guess so." I relaxed my eyebrows breaking eye contact with his injury.
"See that? We think alike already." He joked, doing the stunt that he did yesterday. I looked back up and smiled.
"You know what else we do alike?" I took the ball from him and started to bounce it on one knee.
"Hey, you've been practicing!" The ball went out of balance on the fourth bounce, and he caught it with one hand, and returned it back to me. I took the ball and cut myself off after the first bounce.
"Oh man, sorry my club's sign-ups are happening in a minute, I gotta go." I panicked, handing him the ball back.
"That's alright. Hey, I'll see around!" He yelled the farther I got away, holding the ball on his waist.
"Yeah, I'll see ya later." I waved to him, beginning to race to the sign-ups.
"Definitely.." He muttered under his breath joking, in a low-confidence tone.I was focused on my activity once I was in the building, but I could here a lot of shouting coming from outside. I took a peek out the window, curious of all the commotion, only to see Danny flouncing away off the field.
