Daniel was looking at the lunch options that were put in front of him, his black eye still visible. Just as I was picking out my food, I spotted him and quietly hopped over right next to him.
"Hi" I say to get his attention
"Hey, Rose! How you doin?" He asked, going back to look at the food.
"Good," I respond, looking at the different choices with him.
"Not to hungry today?" He said, looking at my tray. Well, I was, but the food that was there just didn't seem all that appetizing, so it was a bit hard to pick.
"No, not really" I shook my head
"Here, have some pie, made it myself" He joked as he handed me it. The pie didn't look that bad, so I accepted. I just laughed at his remark. "You sittin' with anybody?"
"Well, you if that's okay" I answered
"Sounds great to me." He turned around heading his way over to pay for lunch.
"Hey so what happened with soccer tryouts?" I raised my eyebrow, following him.
"Oh, y'know. It was alright." He shrugged, trying to avoid the question.
"Really? Didn't seem that way when you where walking off the field." I quipped in a slightly empathetic tone. He had a subtle confused yet shocked look on his face.
"Does news spread fast?" He answered back with his cocky attitude.
"No," I chirped "I've gotta good eye I guess" I smiled at him. He paused.
"What? What?" He repeated, looking up as if he was talking to someone in his head. Most likely to be humorous. I looked around us, but he didn't seem to be talking to anyone but himself. "Oh yeah, you're right, you're right. I know." He shrugged in agreement, still looking up. I raised my eyebrow in concern.
"What are you doing?" I questioned, snapping him back to reality
"Oh, it's just this little voice, telling me I've gotta be some kinda yo-yo to be talkin' to you right now." I just shook my head and smiled at his behavior.
"That'll be 2.50." The lunch lady said.
"Uh wait, for both" Daniel said searching his wallet. The lunch lady typed in the change.
"3.75." She said as Daniel handed her the money.Me and Daniel both walked out as Johnny's friend group snickered as soon as they spotted him. I pointed to an empty-ish table, and Daniel nodded his head and followed me as I walked over to it.
I sat down, but just as Daniel sat his tray on the table, Johnny slipped a pie underneath him, causing Daniel to sit down on it. I could hear his friend group's cackling coming from behind me. Daniel sprung up surprised, and wiped the pie off his bottom. I shot Johnny a confused yet disgusted look.
"Gotta watch where you sit next time!" Johnny said with his arms open. "Probably your only pair of pants, huh?" He said in a snarky tone with his hands on his hips. Daniel slowly walked walked towards Johnny with the smushed plate of pie in his hand.
"Don't even think of it worm." Johnny spat confidently. Daniel stood in front of him and paused. He then suddenly splatted the pie in the middle of Johnny's shirt and swiped it down. Johnny quickly bottled up his anger, and began to get into a fighting stance. Daniel ducked, and immediately rushed into Johnny tackling him, causing them both to charge into a group of students at the lunch table. I stuck up from my seat and tried to locate where Daniel was in the dog pile of students. Everyone was yelling in shock and confusion, or egging them on, but I simply just froze, and observed what was happening right in front of me. I rolled my eyes and questioned why'd Johnny have to interfere with Daniel, again. I slumped down back onto the bench and laid my head down on the table as the fight was being attempted to be broken up.
