The night had swallowed the two trainees almost hole until their pathway was lit up by lanterns along with beautiful wisteria trees, showing them the way while also securing them a bit. The blonde and his partner were walking up the stairs as the aura and atmosphere around them changed, their training would test them if they were ready or would die trying as what they were getting themselves into would not go easy on them. "Is it too late to say we should've had a secondary meal with Senjuro before we left?"
Kyojuro let out a laugh as he placed his soft hand on the H/C's head in the way of comforting her which did help, just a little though since the dangers up ahead were still there but she believed that it would be easier with him by her side. "Senjuro would've told you to ease on the eating or there wouldn't be any food left for us!" The girl imagined the scenario before her eyes and a smile appeared along with a little chuckle as the scenario sounded a bit funny, seeing a distressed Senjuro because she loved to eat, especially the rice balls he made. "When you have an appetite, you just gotta eat. You of all people should understand Kyojuro, you eat more than me and Senjuro combined!"
The past years the two had been training, against each other mostly but Y/N was rather comfortable with it because it had let her get closer to Kyojuro, learning things about him, and humoring him and she had grown fond of his company. There had been a few incidents however where she couldn't explain her feelings, she knew that she had taken a liking to him but who wouldn't at that point? She was completely unaware of what kind of feelings she had for him since she believed that they were strictly platonic but fate had some irony in store for her, ready to give her a nudge.
The instructions regarding the final selection were given by two young children, maybe twins even but even though they wore smiles, the battles ahead would be dangerous and could even be fatal if not careful. This didn't cause any doubt however and instead earned expressions of determination all around them, what Y/N failed to realize however was the piercing green eyes that were glued to her whole body, scanning her movement, aura, and the blonde next to her. The final selection hadn't been joked about because of how many fall by the demons in this labyrinth of human-feasting creatures so everyone knew to respect it but there were also those who feared it and sadly, those had a lesser chance of survival. As the instructions had been given, the trainees present all moved in towards the forest filled with demons, knowing that this would either kill them or give them the power to help against the cause to once and for all exterminate the creatures of the night. "Let's do our best to stick together as whatever lurks in there, might be devastating to face alone."
That was her last words until she noticed that the blonde she had walked in with, was no longer beside her, causing her eyes to widen in shock and utter despair, feeling like her hope had just left her body. All she could hear was the wind, the leaves, and the distant screams that sent shivers down her spine, freezing her into place until she felt a scratch on her face. She had managed to snap out of her trance thanks to her body kicking in survival instinct, getting away from the demon that had launched himself at her and wounded her cheeks. "I can sense your body trembling with fear and you were so pretty too, shame that they don't feed me enough."
His hands were cut off as he had tried to attack her head on but this time she wasn't letting her fear control her so after letting out the breath she was holding, she managed to cut him with a singular, clean slice. "Foolish to attack me so straightforward and to underestimate me too? Gullible for a demon." She looked down at him as he looked at her dumbfounded, her eyes narrow as she then didn't prolong his death further, cutting off his head as he was rather defenseless without his arms nor did he even move after he realized that Y/N wasn't just someone he could defeat that easily. After the precise cut from the blade, it didn't take long until the demon was nothing but ashes, flying along in the wind that was surrounding them, and as the ashes left the forest, the E/C shaded orbs followed until it was no longer visible and moved on further into the forest that would determine if she was fit for the demon slayer corps. There were seven days in total that she would have to fight for survival and she would do her best but it did feel empty and odd now that she had lost track of Kyojuro within the first hour after they entered the forest. It was dark, and a bit humid but not too bad so she was thinking to find a place to rest however, that was gonna prove to be more difficult than she'd like since everywhere she roamed, a demon was lurking and ready to pounce.
